has any one ever bred a cheq from two blue bars ? or is it possible ? any thoughts ?

yes an internal door is also good so the birds dont fly over your head and escape....do you plan on getting young birds or older birds ? if older, maybe an outside aviary would be good for them.......

yes would agree, take the aviary down......you will need a drinker for the water, and do you have any ventilation or windows in the loft ?

hi jacobasmith, if you are just getting in to the sport the easiest thing to do is buy a cheap garden shed and alter it to house your birds in.....you dont really want tp go to a lot of expense as you may decide you are not cut out for keeping pigeons so therefor you wont waste a lot of money. if you are starting with a few young birds you will need some box perches, a water drinker, a feeding tray and maybe some pots for grit/minerals..... there might come a time when you will need to build another loft if you get to like pigeon keeping, or you can divide the shed into two to house ybs and obs and then you will need nestboxes for them to raise their young...... hope this is of help to you....

had one of my birds attacked by a cat a few weeks ago, gashed his wing in a nasty slashing type cut.......the thing was though is that for few days after the wound seemed to be getting worse and hurting him more as he was holding himself as though he was in pain, put some anti-septic cream or spray onto the wound and keep her quiet and away from the others and she should make a full recovery....good luck.

unless the pairs are in individual compartments parentage cannot be guaranteed, the pedigree is only as honest as the man who wrote it as fanciers can easily say a yb is off a certain winner and it could be off the worst bird in his loft.....you can write any ring number you want...... :-/

but its not nature for them to be protected....nor is it nature for them to be provided with safe nestboxes. when it was genuine nature the numbers were down and we didnt have this problem with them, so they cant play the old nature card and expect us to swallow it. what is nature is that we can protect what is ours, and this includes our pigeons.....

hi tropicman, you said you bought "every grit and mineral under the sun"....were they keen to eat it ? and if so are they still eating it ? i once had birds that were feeding ybs and they werent eating the grit i had given them so they were pecking around trying to find it themselves, and also landing on the house roof to peck around on the roof tiles......then i bought some "matrix" which has everything they need in it, and they love it.....

wouldnt keep any more than about 16 max, and thats if you have an aviary added of course.....

if you dont have pigeons and you have the views that you have , what are you doing on a pigeon forum...? bobs more right to be involved in any thread on here than you do....YOU ARE SPOT ON BOB, TROUBLE CAUSERS..... > i wonder what would happen if all of a sudden pigeons were attacking hawks/p. falcons.....these would be screaming like little girls.......oooooooh that nasty pigeon has killed my hawk....... ;D

read the exact same thing happen to other fanciers and the birds coming back to liberation piont with a peregrine clinging to their tails... have also read that red pigeons are very attractive to peregrines....we all have our own thoughts on the subject i suppose :-/

1) how can you, or any other fancier ever guarentee a pigeon will not be sat where it shouldnt be... :-/ 2)how can you, or any other fancier ever guarentee there is nowhere around the loft that a sparrowhawk can hide... :-/ 3)i beg to differ that nothing can outfly a pigeon, a peregrine falcon cant ? :-/ i dont think a pigeon would get the chance to become streetwise as its something that has to be gained through experience and one wrong turn and its dead.....very few second chances for pigeons...

you are compairing a humans line of thought with a pigeons, totaly different....so a pigeon sees another pigeon killed by a hawk and it knows how to stop it happening to him ????? yeah... :-/

however "wised up" they become its a sad fact of life that they will never outfly a hawk.....also if a pigeon is sat on a roof or sat anywhere, a hawks attack is way too fast for a pigeon to react and fly away.... :-/
