  1. I usually try not to get involved in the site politics etc but would be very keen to know what's going on with Frank. I always found his posts to the point and very informative. Also met him for the first time a few weeks ago and thought he was a true gent and very generous indeed. I do feel he will be a great loss to the site if he can't get back on. Al.
  2. Well done again Vinnie and very many thanks indeed. Al.
  3. I got one 3 days ago afetr hawk attacks every day. So far no hawks and the birds just seem to ignoew it. Seems to be working so far. Al.
  4. I have been hit daily the last week. I bought an orange flashing light and put it on the ground in front of tthe loft. Had 15 ybs out tonight picking around and others flying aand no sign of the hawk. Hope its not just coincidence but read last week that it can work. Fingers crossed. Al.
  5. Lost 2 ybs and 3 yearlings to the hawk in the last 2 weeks. Really fed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Not you anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I would say get plenty of good advice on your loft size and design and do your best to follow it before even thinking about spending money on birds. try and visit as many as possible and figure out what will work for you. Al
  8. I know what you mean, I cant believe the number of different breeds, its incredible when you start looking around. Even ones bred to catch falcons out there.
  9. Here you are Jimmy, theres not much thats not on You Tube
  10. Most tumblers are now just show birds, I had one years ago that did a couple of flips but that was all. A good Birmingham roller will spin really fast like a blur and drop 10 to 20ft or more before pulling out.
  11. Heres the roller clip

  17. Probably empty but I would take it away anyway, too much time between the 2 if it were to hatch. Al.
  18. Glad it works for some but doesnt up here i'm afraid.
  19. Must be something in it for you stew, long may it continue.
  20. Maybe I just need a bigger dog, Stews got an Alsation.
  21. Our dogs always in the garden when the birds are out but the hawk seems to ignore it as it ignores me. It grabbed at a yb at the beginning of the week within 5 ft of me. I was washing some nest grills and managed to give the bloody thing scooosh on its way past. Dog was right beside us as the birds are used to it and it doesnt bother with them, really likes the doos in fact. The first roller I bred years ago was abandoned in the nest just over a week old. we took it in the house and we were all feeding it. The wife came home for lunch and to feed the wee thing. Got a fright to see the hall door was open and the dog had got into the sitting room where the wee roller was. it wasnt properly featherd at the time and the dog must have licked and licked it as it was soaking wet. never harmed the wee thing though.
  22. I have????????
  23. Sooner the better, lost 2 ybs last week :-/. Last year I only lost 1 from the loft all year, hope its not a sign of things to come.
  24. I've tried grit, minerals, calcium but no luck afetr 3 rounds.
  25. I had a roller hen a few years ago and that was all she could ever lay, tried calcium and all sorts but she never managed a proper egg. Ive got a hen here that is laying mishaped eggs with a course shell, they are even slightly over size. Tried 3 rounds so far but no use, she is about to lay again so fingers crossed as I am really keen to get a few rounds of her. Al.
