  2. thanks steph and chickadee, they are quality birds.
  3. Would anyone be interested in 1 or 2 matched pairs of Birmingham SHOW rollers? Although they may roll if you were to fly them they are not the performing type and are the fancy pigeon show type, I bought them in earlier this year to breed from and show youngsters next year but have since changed my mind. I keep a couple of different breeds and have decided that this particular breed is not for me. Although I am new to the breed I believe them to be very good examples in type and the feather quality is silky smooth. If some one wanted a start in this breed I believe these 2 pairs would form a great foundation for the start of a new small stud. (That was my original intent). The cocks are both 04 pigeons One black badge and one tortoise shell The hens are both o6 birds and I believe are both what’s known as tortoise shell. Please contact me by pm but ONLY if you are serious about having them. im in Kent and happy for them to be collected in person but I will Amtrak. 1st photo cock pair 1 2nd photo hen pair 1 3rd photo cock pair 2 4th photo hen pair 2

we tried all the 'toe' theories with known gender birds and found it didnt work. not a scientific thing just handling the birds 1 weekend in the loft ?

    Cock or Hen

the way i was told (and it is descibed in the bird mags) is the other way round. circular for hens , straight up and down for cocks ?? but anyway , it only works for some people. u have to have the 'gift' ! i have tried it several times and nothing moves ! i watched an old lady in a pet shop (she was the owner) do it over a canary many years ago and in my opinion she was making it move herself ! probably made more sales that way . if u wanted a cock she could swing it and if you wanted a hen she could rotate it ? lol

    NEST MATES

my experience (and my dads . .who is the main man) is that the majority of the time you get 'one of each' but every now and then you get 2 cocks or 2 hens ! its not unusual.
  11. 0pensaysme i hav sent you a pm.
  12. me and dark_chequer all sorted now........................... but thats the last time i quote William Congreve on this forum !! ha ha
  13. think u've miss understood me. its not a sexist comment ? its just an old fashioned way of saying 'boy theres nothing like a lady with the hump' i was simply acknowledging how mad you seemed when you posted calling the cheats arseholes. im sorry if ive offended you in some way?
  14. dont worry im on your side, its just an old old saying "Hell Hath No Fury like a woman scorned."
  15. im upset about this but.................................. Hell Hath No Fury !!
  16. webmaster could choose them maybe ?
  17. still thinking about how to vote in this poll but i would rather the show not be judged by a single independent judge. i know thats how its done at live shows but i liked the idea of a number of fanciers coming to the same conclusion. eg. if 5 judges judged the same class of 25 birds (live or online) there is a good chance they would pick 5 different winners. however if 25 judges study the class you can bet one bird would soon rise to the top.
  18. having read the more recent posts on this matter im starting to wonder if i have done the right thing ? could so easily have cast my votes fof one of the CHEATS. i think the only way the show can work properly now is to remove the CHEATERS entries.
  19. dont know how big your shed is but the way forward is to divide it into 2 with a simple partition. wether you are racing birds or just keeping them for pleasure you need at least 2 section if you are going to breed.keep the hens one side all winter and the cocks on the other.then once you paired them up in 1 side (only) you have an area for the yougsters to be weaned to .as soon as the youngsters are feeding themselves they need to be weaned across into the other section.their parents will have gone to nest again and will eventually treat young from their 1st round as intruders and bully them out of the box.the youngsters then have nowhere to go but the floor and are vulnerable to bullying by the other adult birds. i know this isnt the answer u wanted but its the way forward and so much more practical than having just one open shed with all your adults together.
  20. thats what i reckon
  21. agree with most of what u say but if it had been a joke surely sum 1 wd hav owned up by now. if only in private to webmaster.
  22. name em and shame em.
  23. sum dont count i think, like 'just for fun' for eg. ????
  24. have you not got 2 seperate sections , 1 for cocks and 1 for hens ??
  25. i agree, redeem themselves a little bit.
