  3. Drag beats wind everytime,, but you can beat drag,, we do it most weeks,, we joined a club and were told we would never win as we live too far north ,, this club races south and the birds come from the south.. we have got the birds to come from the north and win,, It can be done but takes a lot of homework and hard work to do it.. we train our birds north east for racing south east,, Our birds have to break 40 miles from home,, and they do.. :) train them only on this line,, ant

  13. 14 widowhood cocks 16 roundabout yearlings 50 latebreds for the future, these will get trained and raced to 200 in 2010 only. 70 young birds to be raced. have a great 2010 ant
  14. We have a couple of hans de zwarts,, I think this is where linderluf got his birds from.. very good honest birds.. we have 2 here and between them 6 club winners bred and 2 x 1st feds,, also 3rd national young bird.. ant
  15. My advice would be Van reets,, these will win upto 400 miles.. lots of the sprinting strains will not go that far,, We have got the de meyers in the last 2 years,, they are super upto 250.. but the van reets have matched them every time.. but we have more van reets.. Van Reets for me as they are easy to get and you can get very good ones for little money.. the new strains are not cheap and some are way over the odds.. best of luck,, a sprint team will take 2 to 3 years to get with careful planning,, distance can take upto 5 years.. have a great 2010 ant
  16. Lee all you do is cut the bird out of the original picture and then put it onto any background you want,, all you need is the photo software,, adobe cs is good but can be very hard to master.. ant

    RACING WIDOWHOOD

Tammy we have tried many feeding systems,, lots we have paid for.. our system at the min is a blend of a few of them.. trial and error is the best for your birds,, this way you will know exactly how much the birds need each week.. all the widowhood mixes are very good quality.. we feed - marimans ,, beyers,, we find these mixes very good indeed,, best of luck ant
  23. As with many systems you pair the birds and rear a round from them before the racing,, depending on the races you want to compete at.. for the early races you would pair them early jan,, for the distance races you would pair them early and then re pair them,, or pair them feb to march for the task in hand.. best of luck ant

    RACING WIDOWHOOD

Widowhood is a very easy system to implement,, Pair the birds towards the mid to end of jan,, either take hens away or take hens and young away when young 17 days old.. get birds fit around the loft then train upto about 20 miles max.. birds live in front of box all the time except basketting day and race day.. motivate these birds by either giving them bowl and box or bowl box and hen before each race for 5 mins to 24 hours depending on distance of race.. On return cocks with hen from 30 mins to 24 hours depending on race.. Trainign between races is upto you but not needed with widowhood.. Birds go out and get trained around loft twice a day upto 1 hour each time.. yearlings will need a few trial runs back to the hens to teach them the game.. feeding is the key though,, over feed and they glide in,, under feed and they will be lost on a difficult race.. best of luck ant
  25. all you need to do is add a small pot to each box when the young are growing,, fill with beans,, you will get strong healthy birds.. all our stock birds will have a pot of beans in their box.. they still get the breeding mix from the trough but the extra beans are there for the young in the nest.. Also our just weaned young birds will get maples for a week or 2 and nothing else.. this makes them eat big seeds.. stops them picking the small stuff out of a mix.. best of luck ant
