hi rob, as your new to all this i will try to keep it simple, if your 4 hens are older than youngsters 2008 bred, then you will need 4 cocks to go with them, best thing is not to buy any 2008 birds , try yearlings or older but nothing above 6 years as you may have fertility problems, and you want things simple at the moment. so 4 cocks is what your after or even 2 cocks and rotate the 4 hens after each round is bred, hope this helps a little spencer

I can appreciate your point mark, I have a young family and work 6 days a week and still manage to buy expensive pigeons. or good pigeons. I had to save mate and when i had enough i went looking for what i considered the best, now i can afford to sell some youngsters as well as stock so they can now pay for themselves. its difficult i know but possible with lots of patience mate. when people buy top pigeons they dont need 10 or 20 , 3-4 should set you up for 5-7 years and related cross can then be brought in. so if you pay £100 for a good bird it works out over 5 years £20 per year invested in that bird, but people buy and pay £30-£40 for a bird that does nothing for years and there is no sound investment in this method. I would rather pay £400 for 4 and see it as investment and breed winners ove the next 5 years , than pay lots of £20 over 5 years and chase nothing at all. just my opinion, I also do try to make my own bloodlines available and cost effective for fanciers, it only takes negotiation and for people to know what they want.. success or failure ? the difference is what? £s. just my thoughts mark, cheers mate. spencer

Hi doo, my last season racing before i moved house ,(1 year ago) was 6 races , 3x1st, 1x3rd,1x6th, 1x7th, different races(6) and pools won twice, this with a team of 5 hens only not losing a pigeon. never entering more than 2 per race !! I work weekends now and unable to race due to that, I would look for a racing loft to work in partnership, we breed they race !! but who do you trust to look at a pigeon and not just see a pigeon. every fancier who has had pigeons from me within the last 16 years has won with them within 2 years of racing them!! there are people who have my pigeons and win but they dont want to band their names about, if you get my drift, i always ask permission but some say they would rather not... As for a bit of forward thinking , well if people knew who comes to me for pigeons..... well i will leave that there as they know who they are. kindest regards spencer we are now a small breeding lofts only to supply top pigeons to fanciers who desire success, 15 pairs breeders only all breeding winners. make up your own mind in relation to your pigeons, eyesign is a subject that will push one mans idea to what is right and each disagree with each other so , i say you grade your pigeons to your own method and enjoy the pigeons not the eyes..... or could keep peacocks, they got lots of eyes. ;D spencer

foriegn players win races they same as British players, you just got to know what you want and how many and from where. I have had pigeons that cost little and they won nothing much, then I decided to pay more for better pigeons and never looked back, so you get what you pay for in my mind. their are good pigeons the world over, but its your own preference for type and family. spencer

hi mikkey, I personally think that foreign birds are better in some repect due to the sport being more proffesional on main land europe and other country's. But on reflection British pigeons are just as good quality wise, I just think some pigeons do not get the recognition they deserve in the UK and some get more than should be credited !! in the main, its get what works and stick to it following the founders methods until they stop winning. spencer

MY MEULEMANS HOLD THEIR TYPE AS YOU SAY, IF YOU CROSS THEM OR KEEP THEM PURE THEY WIN !! LES YOU KNOW THE MEULEMAN PIGEONS AND THEIR TYPE AND WHAT IS DESIRED , SO YOU KNOW PIGEONS. WHAT MAKES THE ACHIEVEMENT IN PORTUGAL EVEN MORE REWARDING IS , THE PIGEONS WERE 4 MONTH OLD LATE BREDS AND THEY BEAT EXPERIANCED OLD BIRDS !! SOME QUALITY IN THERE.. CHEERS MATE SPENCER

I selected them for him. I only keep and breed pigeons that would improve anyones results, advice is given to how they should be bred, I have had other reports from fanciers in UK but they ask to remain annonimous, self explanitory i think. thank you all, knockers included. regards spencer
