If I get hens eggs through the post I let them settle for 24hrs with the pointed side down which lets the air sack settle to it's natural position, I have had the same success rates if not better this year with posted eggs as opposed to collected eggs.
I have taken pigeon eggs that I did not want to hatch and shook them vigorously and they still both hatched :-/
That's the difference me and my husband were both true athelites ;D ;D ;D
There must be something in it as fanciers post that they are from either sprint, middle or distance lines. Not only muscle mass and ability to turn fuel into energy but feeding the body with oxygen efficiently is also a factor along with many others like diet, motivation, training and inherant genes etc that makes a champion in any sport. But there are always the acceptions to these rules that will win on the day despite all the theories :-/
Yes but they stock up on carbohydrates before a race and they are only good runners if they are conditioned or naturally able to turn that into energy. Marathon runners don't have huge muscle definition like sprinters as they could not fuel them for 26 miles. Sprinters are generally only good at short bursts and need all their muscles fueled very quickly
Two birds can weigh exactly the same, one could be high in muscle the other could be high in fat, handling the bird would judge this. I thought a sprint pigeon would not need as much reserves carbohydrate/fat than a distance pigeon and more muscle would be better for a sprinter :-/
I have not done it with pigeon eggs but I have done it with hens eggs, important to put the pointed side downwards and let the air sack settle to the top, keep them reasonably cool and keep turning them so the membrane doesn't stick to the shell. They can stay that way for weeks and only develop once they start being incubated
Really sorry to hear that Pete, as one of the most genuine guys on the site and having been gifted birds from you when I first started I would do anything to help. If they have blown off my husband will make you replacements that will remain in place the next time, just send me the sizes
Carol
Rules are rules and if you question them you are deemed a trouble maker and you will either be warned, suspended or banned to avoid further conflict and that is not just pigeon racing it is the same in most walks of life where people in power abuse them and hide behind them. It was the same when I was a nurse :-/
Creosote is banned because it is a carcinogen, creosote-treated wood products to contribute to cancer risk in workers and handlers. In the past wood creosote has been used as a disinfectant, a laxative, and a cough treatment, :-/
I am never overweight ya cheeky old ####### remember I was in my new van, not listening to you two rabbiting on about the past, 320 beds gives you a lot of choices to lie doon in, I would have been comatose listening to you two;D ;D ;D
We spoke to Cem when we took the pics for Anto and he said he was scapping the small trailer and he was no longer offering his services, we were interested in this one but Anto got in there first so we bought another one :-/
I am thinking about offering a training service to replace Cems one, my husband has bought me a trailer that holds 12 of the old fife crates, if there is a need for it he will custom make one for more birds
