Ive heard some of the scottish clubs are racing from Aycliffe this year due to bad losses from scotch corner? Is it true? anyone know if they are racing from there this year. Major road works in the Scotch Corner area for the next 30 weeks!! Dont know what is getting done , they just had signs and cones laid everywhere last week.

Ripon is about 30 mile direct south from aswell but again, it can be so much more different from there to here. If you Were to Race from Aycliffe, a new race point in the BHW then a visit could be made as its about 2 mile from my house. Dave

I live about 10 miles to the east of Witton Castle, so would be able to give you rough idea what is like at the time of release. But round here it can be so different in that kind of distance, as we have hills, lots of woodland, open fells and defineitly a unique rainfall, it rains when you think it shouldnt(ie nice sunny day). No it is usually just before the first race in April, but even that cannot be relied on, last year they were late from the printers.
-
Well done mate, take care on the streets.

perhaps we should give our birds Carlsberg not water, then they may be the best birds in the world.
-
they dont change that much. 2007 one not printed yet , as they were just sorting out race programmes last week.

Hi Sean, things are fine now, dad is doing well. I have just gone back to work after my shoulder operation, it was a lot worse than they thought. Still have to do physio every day and it might be another 3 months + before totally fit. Your pictures look good, and your ybs are smart looking, i think i have the dopey ones, as soon as i open the loft door they try and rush out to get a feed. It should be that they stroll out and then run in for a feed when i shake the can. Might get them trained to run in and not out sometime lol. Dave

Hi Mac, in the Homing world there was an advert from the NEHU, about 1500 rings left. I think if you ring up, you can reserve some till your payment arrives. North of England Homing Union Mr David Power, Secretary 58 Ennerdale Road Walker Dean Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 4DG Telephone: 0191 262 5440

I know we cannot afford it, and we prefer to race with a sliding door after the bird has returned, and the ETS can only be used with a simple small entrance so the bird passes over within a couple of cms. If i got ETS she (er indoors) would probably make me go shopping then!! Dave

Mac you will end up pulling your hair out, i went to a depot to pick my birds up and its total chaos. They work long long hours for , what i would call poor pay. You will end up having no time to look after your birds. I used to work for United carriers years ago and it was virtually 12 hour days every day including sat and sun. Mangers words were there is plenty of people on the dole if you dont like then f*** off. Stayed for 2 years until i could find the best job for my trade (A Proper fully trained Tank Mechanic) not many of us about, now i work for the MOD again as a civvy, pays not great but i have flexi hours 37 per week and a pension building up (if i live that long). Dave Anyway if you do go for it at least we will get some birds delivered in the north east.

Hi REDCHEQHEN, It came out of the sky (flying) and obviously very hungry. I wasnt up the loft at the time, but Bob brought it round home as we know which ring numbers belong to each other in the club. When it did take off the other day it did fly over about 3 times but then disappeared. So must have gone for a look around. Glad it came back. Dave

Good News He or she is back, dived into Bobs loft 2 down from ours tonight. Dave

No wing stamp or leg rings. I normally wing stamp when all the ybs are together, still have about 6 to go in the yb loft. (which would be this week). This one is probably about the oldest of the bunch at about 28-29 days old. Dave

Newton Aycliffe, about 10 miles south of Durham. Cheers Dave

No dont think so, only ever seen one cat, that didnt come any closer than the allotments which are about 50 metres away , at the nearest point to the lofts. The little blighter may come back, but if not its one less to feed. Anyway that one and its nest mate (a £10 ring) are the ones my dad said would fly off, as they are both too keen to get out. Dave
