1st Young bird lost today, opened the loft door this afternoon and i was rushed by 25 ybs wanting to come out. Anyway probably one less for the futurity race as it was chequer FUT539, it may come back! I have had trouble getting 2 older birds in for the past 2 days. Tree hopping and flying with the others but just would not come in. They are in now (FUT539 still missing) but i just wonder if something has spooked them. There is nothing flying around(no hawks), no rats or mice as we always have poison down in certain areas. Dave

Letd hope its not avian flu http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/suffolk/6325963.stm text from link: Government vets are investigating an outbreak of an illness which has killed 1,000 turkeys on a farm in Suffolk. The birds are being tested for a number of diseases at a farm, understood to be near Halesworth, including avian flu. But officials have stressed it is would be premature to say they are looking at a suspected case of bird flu. Vets from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) say the results of preliminary tests should be known on Friday night. A Defra spokeswoman said: "We are currently investigating a report of unexplained illness on a poultry farm in the Suffolk area." She said reports were received late on Thursday night and the premises were immediately placed under restrictions. "A full investigation began at 0900 GMT this (Friday) morning, with samples being sent to Veterinary Laboratories Agency, Weybridge, for testing," she said.

I think ours head south too for the sun, but dont seem to get many back that go missing. Had one of our hens come back 2 days late from a race, she was covered in oil, and still managed to fly home, shes is doing fine after a good clean up. Paired her to a nice young cock that was flying quite well from 240-250 miles, so hopefully the ybs will have some determination too.

Sean, i think ive put one on a distance bird (one of our ybs from a 600 miler) too, because just my luck that it will go in the wrong direction first, so it doesnt matter. @ 174 miles if i get them back i will be happy, which shouldnt be too much of a flying problem, its just our birds normally race up the east side, this means a crossover somewhere from west/middle to east side. We have hundreds in our town centre too, they fly over our lofts daily going to the local farm. The town centre is due to get knocked down soon, that might clear them out. We get the few odd straggs visiting the lofts, usually the ones without rings though. And yes there is some good looking healthy birds, and probably some of mine from last year.

But if you pay for a service then you have the right to get the service, if it was a 2 or 3 day service would you still pay £30, no you would want it a lot cheaper. For example you can service your car £120 if you want the correct bits used, or should i just charge you the full amount and use parts of the last car i serviced as they look ok and you shouldnt breakdown (i can charge you less for that if you want to take the risk), you wouldnt want to pay full price then, would you. Same principle in my mind.
-
I just refused to pay last time, phoned his boss and said i wanted a compensation claim form. His boss turned round and said it aint my company i only work for them, give him the birds. If you dont ask you dont get!

It happens up north because they are total dickheads who think they are the bees knees, when really they are total tossers. We should Send the scum, if ever caught out to Iraq or Afganistan. See what they do to people out there (one who commit crimes against their own) The Uk is too soft, if you commit crimes you are treated with big soft gloves and you must need care , and looking after, Bollocks hard labour , chain gangs in the street cleaning everywhere is what is needed, bread and water no comfy prison cells, they should have the fear of god put in them. perhaps then people will think twice about commiting crimes. :X >

Thanks for the blocks Sean, it was good to meet you in person. Nice setup and some good looking birds. I will have to make more time for a visit next year and we can spend a bit more time , hopefully in daylight. Once again, cheers mate. Dave
