  1. Hope so Alec Gary's Red hen is a screamer, would once be described as 'roomy' I put her through nearly every week during the racing, shes bigger than most of the cocks that go from our club.I've high hopes for the young that hatched out As for the latebreds they are related to some of the birds that are doing well here.Got a half brother to my good old cock which is very fortunate as the dam is pushing on 12 years old

    Scum

Terribly sorry to hear this news. I've my fingers crossed the birds are recovered shortly.
  3. got a pair of eggs off a clubmate from a good hen thats won the section 3 times from the 3 bird club. Also two or three latebreds from an old friend that I'm not likely to be able to get again.High hopes
  4. Have a bit drink of water before ye leave the house. By the time you get to the compound nature will be ready to take its course :emoticon-0136-giggle
  5. The old 'Lyrona Supreme' hen died last winter, think she was around 15/16.She had stopped laying by the time of the sale and he didn't want to put her down. Great pigeon-twice 1st Section D from the Gold Cup race, 7th open Messac was her highest finish
  6. Lows-having to dig to the loft just to feed and water them.*touch wood*no real deep snow this winter(yet) or last. Highs-definately the nice June/July days.Long drives down some of the donkey treks training the doos, picking up a sausage roll on the way back. Then sitting in front of the loft flicking them bits of seed and watching them clap around all day
  7. Was nice to have a blether with some fancier friends I don't see that often. A bit too far out the way to get battered in aboot the need to get a chauffeur for next year
  8. Stay safe Apologies to Bernie for hijacking his thread
  9. Got stitches in my eyebrow but the X-Ray shows the ankle is just sprained Drinking and ice don't mix
  10. you're a gid flier though Stevie I know for a fact you and your da will select your breeders on their performances as well. was just raising the point of the lad who selected only on performance and selected on type at the same time by accident. Anyway I'm off to hospital, think I have broke my ankle or torn a ligament(again)
  11. When asking about theories on selection, types, creating your own family etc.I was told by a top fancier-if you believe in good pigeons, the rest will fall into place. The only criterion for his selection is performance.Could be coincidence but after flying birds under his management for three decades he has ended up with a type of birds that chose him,not the other way round. He did not select for these traits but the birds he could call his own family have turned out medium/small,slightly shorter than a lot of birds, have the backs you could carry coal on,are well rounded, good muscle and a breast bone thats very difficult to expose on account of the thick feather coverage.Type wise the birds are all peas in a pod. Many of them carry fantastic eyesign as well
  12. Just Pretend
  13. You could get him cremated, although it may be a touch insensitive Burning Love They arent getting any better
  14. Yip they are a class act
  15. Great achievement Top class racers. If they stayed in a different neck of the woods they'd be world famous Was this back in 2009 Sapper?
  16. Its a petty the photo wasn't taken a few weeks earlier as the wildlife garden was truly stunning
  17. Only my opinion but to me its more of a national liberation that a national race.Another contributing factor to the poor channel entries,a reason why many of the feds in the country are having to bend over backwards to accomodate the national programme and a glorified fed race for the Scottish Borders/NEHU lads. To me it should be done away with but as I've said before its not the LMFC Best of luck to those who enter the one loft race
  18. its a fed race anyway,not a national
  19. They are all at it unfortunately oldyellow
  20. Was talking to yer dad about it last night William He said Hammy was clever about the way he sold the doos to Dr Anderson.Apparently eggs off the best of them were floated up to a Standburn loft before the birds were moved. Yer da said he was a dab hand with a sling as well
  21. Had a look on Google images the other day for some photos in and around Avonbridge. Was surprised to find some one had uploaded one of our lofts The 2nd picture is the view from the road behind our dookit. The further right in the photo they come on raceday, the better they are usually in. The 3rd picture is the view to the Southeast of our loft and where my clubmate Davie Young spent the first few years of his childhood.
  22. My dad noticed the local feed stockist at the time went through a fairly purple spell one season and had a chat to him about it.The thing that came out the conversation was the use of the horse wormer. May just be in the imagination but found when the usage is timed correctly its a useful tool.
  23. Found out a bit more about the three Avonbridge fanciers in the top 20.First into the village that day was Jock Hill,he later went onto win the SCC Dol race. The second Avonbridge bird was to Hammy Sloan.I was right about the book but wrong about the title its called 'The Creation Of A Strain' W D Lea Rayner The Creation of a Strain [Tracing the Evolution of the Racing Pigeon from the Earliest Times to the Present Day] , Teddington: All-British Pigeon Racing, 1955. Had a look for it online and the cheapest is coming in just shy of £70.The best option for me by the look of it is to buy it from a suffolk based book shop,Treasure Chest Books. It would cost £100 but they have a 7 day return and refund policy which would give me enough time to copy it Hammy Sloan raced his pigeons a stonesthrow away from where our lofts are today and he stayed in one of the neighbouring houses to a very young,Davie Young The third Avonbridge bird was to Jock Clifford. My dad's brother married into Cliffords in Avonbridge,I will find out if its the same lines lol
  24. Avonbridge dominating the East Section Very interesting Gareth I think H.Sloan,Avonbridge who was 13th Open featured in a book, believe it was called 'Creation of the Strain'. Would like to get my hands on that
