  2. don't know aboot billy99,but av got a few prisoner stock birds and a fairly warm loft that doesn't let in much wind, snow or rain. Basically I'm f #%ked Was just asking Peter why he chose the baltic loft, but to keep the stock doos. We now know he isnae and i'm sure we look forward to hearing the result
  3. Going back to yer earlier post Peter, when no body had stock birds and and they all had cold lofts. Why have you chosen only one of these to try as yer remedy? In an even earlier post you quoted Sir Robert Cormack. You're bound to know how he felt about prisoner stock also and his feelings on how the birds and those from them quickly deteriorate? Put yer money where your mouth is and take billy99's advice?

  14. Think it's hard to get right, not so sure it's the distance of races that's causing the losses. A lot of fanciers in Central Scotland have lost more birds from the 50-90 miles races this season than they have from 150-190-myself included. Think some race controllers could do a lot better and making the first couple any age races would do no harm. The rest is down to fanciers preparation, luck with the health of their birds and hawks?? Perhaps choice of race points could be added to the list as well?
  15. You're a hard task master Mr Hay . Noticed from a few good lofts I've visited in the last two or three years, fanciers covering all bases. one fancier springs to mind who takes around 120 youngsters-60 are darkened and raced weekly out to 300 miles,60 are given half a dozen tosses to 30 miles and left til the following year. Don't think something along those lines would do any harm if you've the space and patience.
  16. If I look back the last seven years since I restarted racing the birds a lot of my best best pigeons have been late breds, with some not seeing a race basket until their second year. I usually put a few youngsters on darkness coz I'm a desperate c * nt,but I often think on the whole we ask too much of our young birds
  17. Just at the wind up Tom. Keep up the good work
