May i make a small correction ,ref K Thomson Whamprey, The correct spelling is WAMPHRAY ,where i was born all those years ago ,wamphray had its own station and signal box on the main Glasgow to London west coast line, and is steeped in history Wamphray is from the roman word umphrey which means deep glen in the Forrest,Wamphray,s small school educated pupils who went on to be doctors ,professors, the most moderators to the church of scotland from any small community in all of scotland ,a physician to the zhar of Russia ,and at present scotland's only conservative mp ,The place where the tartan army detonated a bomb trying to bring down the main electric supply from Scotland to England ,My loft sat only feet from the main line and i built my late parents a 8x 6 shed to sit and view the birds and the scenery ,the Sunday post newspaper ran a full page article about life in Wamphray and how everyone seemed to no the secret of long life as they lived into there nineties, they wrote of my parents sitting in the royal box watching the pigeons,it was called the royal box because the royal train would stop and wait on the old points being changed when it was making its way to balmoral ,one such summers day when it was stopped and the birds were out flying,a royal servant approached my parents and asked if her majesty could view the birds ,railway men were summoned and steps were put in place from the track into our garden for her majesty to view the birds she then had a chat with mum in the hut before re boarding the train,So if your are viewing at present mam and were a bit confused with the spelling it has been put right ,The royal box still takes pride of place ,sadly my parents are no longer with us to enjoy those memories .Remember Robert Wamphray

I no that this post is slightly of subject as it does not relate to Lanarkshire fed business and i apologise in advance ,Last Year the solway fed agm voted to race east and during and after the meeting many many members said that no way would they compete with the fed because of the selected race route ,however as the season progressed the same said fanciers did compete and competed very well (because we were the only show in town),the season was fairly successful and considering the terrible weather experienced with very strong east winds for the old birds ,and south west winds for the youngsters some members had a good season whilst others did not ,I for one have never in forty years of racing lost as many good old birds ,I put this down to some very strong east winds where fed members had birds reported from these races as far away as benbecula of the west coast of Scotland ,many members in the fed have stated that they have a wonderful team of yearlings for next year but do not state that they never raced after the third Yb race 70 + mls maximum ,now that is the fanciers choice we pay the bills and we make the decisions,With old birds on the west route after leyland the year previous i only dropped 2,one of the very best in our federation is jimmy dalgliesh from ecclefechan who at the most will only winter a team of 20 birds yet he at present owns a bird that has scored 1st and 3rd open SNFC from France .Jimmy races his youngsters from the first to last race irrespective of route or weather survival of the fittest and the best ,how many of us can boast of this record ,don't you think gentlemen that we also create our own pitfalls by wintering far to many untried unraced pigeons regardless of direction and perhaps if we all followed jimmy Dals methods pigeon racing would be in a healthier position, the honest truth is the skies are full of falcons from north south east or west a pigeons life nowadays is not guaranteed ,enjoy them when we have them and when they are on song push them to there limit ,as sadly one toss next year and they are gone,if we could put as much effort in defeating the BOP lobby as we do our own we would be taking a huge step forward in this wonderful sport of ours and our fathers before us .

Lanarkshire Fed Race Program 2012
yeboah replied to JohnQuinn's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
Portsmouth looks a great liberation spot, would be good if the solway could go with lanarkshire to that one,it was proposed as a national race point last year as it is dead centre and no chance of a holdover like eastbourne with an east wind -
