As a matter of interest ,the other Scottish Feds on liberation do they all on release split into 3/4/5 batches our birds do this virtually every week ,this didnt happen before or is that we were not given as muuch info as we get now ,Whats the reason for this i am wondering .

Ayrshire North Road federation normally leave as one, but I have heard that they sometimes split a way down the road. Occasionally they split at liberation, but usually just the early races.

My guess is the fitter pigeons make off right away and the untrained / unfit ones circle for a while before striking off. :)

The staggered release from the transporter can cause the birds to split into batches, especially if there is a large amount of birds being liberated and being released from both sides of the Lorry.

Unfit birds will follow the pack, unhealthy birds lack orientation and remain at the lib site long after the other birds are long gone.

phil

i have always tried to give a true reflection of our libs even informing members of peregrine attacks etc, given that somebody who will know somebody whose pal says it was not a good lib it seems the best way to do it, driver says up to 600 birds they will usually stick together, more than that they are most likely to split, very difficult for 1500 birds to stay together on lib and as long as they are getting a decent height i dont see it as an issue.

hope this helps
