Wiley Posted May 27, 2016 Report Posted May 27, 2016 This year i have bred a silver cock out of a extremely well proven pair, sire and dam to in my own loft 3 generations of winners from 72 mile to 510 mile. They have never bred a yb this colour before, is the silver cock saying an old wives tale? Whats your experiences?

Wiley Posted May 27, 2016 Author Report Posted May 27, 2016 The old saying was along the lines of Silver Cocks was very rare, and that when bred should be kept as they are fantastic producers. Couldnt say if it was true as dad knew a fancier when he was a kid and all he had was a team of silvers cocks and hens, although he never raced, i believe these were alf baker based.

Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 27, 2016 Report Posted May 27, 2016 Lost a beautiful Silver Cock last week miss looking at him in the mornings but as I told my daughter they ain't pets Mike, was your silver cock a good breeder or was it just an "old wives tale"?
Harry0 Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 The gene for Silver can lay dormant for years . You need a cock to be carrying the gene for silver which will breed silver hens . Both parents need the gene for silver to produce a silver cock .
William Reid Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 Will do fella when i have a bit of time on my handsLooking forward to seeing the photo young sir . In all my years around pigeons have only seen one pigeon that was classified as a true silver and it was a hen from the van hee family not one white feather on its body.
