evening all so im just getting into pigeons ive been doing alot of reading and watching videos mostly regarding health treatment and prevention there are so many different oppinions its alot to take in so im guessing its one of those things where you learn as you go but im looking for a little advice regarding health treatment and prevention products i want to have what medicines im likly to need at hand at some point down the line from what i gather its inevitable even if im maticulas wit cleaning proper ventalation and such.

my question is other than harkers for the obvious ones canker coxi worms mites, what other medicines/tonics/powders should i buy in so i have it there when a problem arises i can start treating promptly i dnt want to be caught short.what does everyone have in there medicine boxes?

Get yourself testing kits from a reputable avian vet ( theirs none in Scotland ) and test your birds every few weeks and treat according to the vets instruction. Youll save money in the long run.

Don't bother with any the products advertised. Do as Delboy says forget the rest of the products and potions . What I would say is try different test kits so you are not always sending to the same place.

Aye i would say beyond what you have got dont get caught up with all the super cures advertised like most of us have done ,a lot will say i never did that !!! dont believe it, i have bought a lot of stuff that sits in the shed never used just because some one said it was great ,aye and so has most doo men mugs with their money ,keep it simple mate IMO.

Forget the cocci treatment, if you have a cocci problem something else health wise or your loft is wrong. If you have a dry loft the cocci count will always be low and not need to be treated. If it flares up its not the cocci you should be worrying about but the other underlying problem.

Sorry to disagree with you young sir :P but have had pigeons return three / four days later from a race injured or flown out . When testing their droppings cocci and canker levels are always elevated. Two things with pigeons that are an easy fix . So for me always have the basic stuff :)

Yes the cocci is elevated because of the high canker levels billy, which i did state if u got a high cocci count it is down to one of two things either a damp/bad loft or a different underlying health issue, in which case as u described a high canker count :emoticon-0136-giggle: i havent treated for cocci in so many years now i couldnt tell ya the last time i treated em for it.

Do yourself a favour and take Gulkies advice, I have not treated for cocci or canker in 10 years, just use one spot on the back of the nexk once per year for lice and worms

You will keep money in your pocket too

I cant remember the last time I treated for cocci, it must be 20 years ago. The Cocci count lowers as soon as you eradicate any other underlying problem. If you canker your birds, the cocci count automatically lowers therefore most cocci products are a waste of money imo.
