frankdooman jnr Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 Just wondering if anyone can give me some information about keeping young birds on the darkness system? Thanks in advance CraigI put my first two rounds on darkness normally about 30 or 40 they are dark from 5 at night till 7 in the morning between Feb and end of July mate hope that helps
dal2 Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 13 weeks for me. Get them off it by longest day
Wiley Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 As long as the darkness is longer then the light it will work, ours get around 9 hours light, but it would still work if it was 11.30 hours light. Have a look at thr secrets of champions series theyd explain it all in depth to you.
ovy1255 Posted January 2, 2016 Report Posted January 2, 2016 Craig can only tell you how i do it------have good results to back up my method.firstly the loft is 8ft x 6ft ------landing board full lenth of front, birds on this all day as cage on it and can go in and out of it---door on side of loft with internal mesh door.---loft not facing best way --direct north.Landing board lifts up to block front of loft for darkness ---only vent in bottom of side door so i dont overcrowd them---- 30 or just ---just over.young birds bred early ,old ones paired over christmas.young birds weaned onto darkness ---- 14 hrs per day till 21st june then daylight as normal lights on till 11pm no timer just switch off,you will find they are roosting up in the boxes anyway.train y/birds 12 to 14 weeks old----so get them up ,too much corn keeps them down on the floor ?as long as they are flying get the basket out.first toss for me is other side of house and half way up the football field they s hit themselves when they come out but see home as soon as they are up now this is basket training step up to suit.this isnt gospel its what i do it works for me.
