ally mac Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Only one cock back from Aycliffe, 199 miles, did 873ypm which isn't too bad for flying into here I think. He has been my most consistent doo in the 4 races so far. He has been at every race, the other four missed last weeks race as they had a harder one the week before. They seemed in good enough condition but I thought I should maybe give them a week of. Should I not have held them back? Needing some advice chaps?? Weathers grim up here today, not great for them working home.
walterboswell59 Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 a rest does no harm ally but after it i like to give them a short toss to make sure there head is right and on the job if you know what i mean weather not been good for you guys up there so dont be to hard on them m8
bullcock Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Weather in Glasgow area has been poor all morning for returns. good luck, we are still waiting on one also from the same race.
philg50 Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Nae that i am any position to give advice 12 lost in first 3 races ,small team hard times but now days i am finding you need to toss your birds, gone are the days when you trained to first race then relied on the home exercising to keep fit .
ally mac Posted May 10, 2015 Author Report Posted May 10, 2015 Not a feather back today, weathers still grim. Think I need to try giving a wee toss mid week right enough, was hoping I could avoid them running the gauntlet and just do their thing round the loft.
ally mac Posted May 10, 2015 Author Report Posted May 10, 2015 Fortunate to have a good view when Im waiting on the doos, hours yesterday. Lofts just out of site at bottom of pic.
Valiant Fifer Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Great view m8, maybe a mid wk toss will help pal, but whatever dont be too hard on the doos a rest will do them good. Put them back in when recovered after a toss or two maybe. Yours is certainly not an easy place to settle birds and fly them successfully at the same time. A lot of Patience required im affraid m8 but keep going! :)
Guest stb- Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 i would move to a more hopsitable ert of the country . I dont really think any of us are in a position to advise you Ally as your position is quite unique for racing pigeons .
ally mac Posted May 12, 2015 Author Report Posted May 12, 2015 Going for a toss or two for those that miss a race, can do them single up too which should help. Just want to be sure I am doing the best for them fitness wise etc, nothing I can do about the terrain but want to be sure I get them right. If there were more boats down your way Rab I would move down for sure
paddymac Posted May 12, 2015 Report Posted May 12, 2015 Best of luck with Ally, hope you get them back on track soon

If i were you personally i would find a nice lorry or van delivery driver who goes down A1 m and find a lad like andy burgess who could single toss your birds for you from there place every 20 mins or so and teach them to fly 100 miles on there own all the time , i would forget about early racing and would not batch train them after 6 tosses jmo what would i know lol

Think that might be the plan for next year. Will look into the single tossing too. Thanks for your thoughts.

Guest Vosteve Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Fortunate to have a good view when Im waiting on the doos, hours yesterday. Lofts just out of site at bottom of pic. Love that view!! What a tonic it must be to wake up and see that every morning - well at least when it is nice weather. Down here in suburbia - Newcastle upon Tyne - we have some nice places but that looks out of this world, you are blessed Atb
