rabbit229 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Report Posted April 22, 2015 You cant and neither can the pigeonsSo what are ppl going on about? Is they a differance? Or are they all the same
dal2 Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 So what are ppl going on about? Is they a differance? Or are they all the sameSome would say they are all the same and are just fed and motivated correctly to win at certain distances
rabbit229 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Report Posted April 22, 2015 Some would say they are all the same and are just fed and motivated correctly to win at certain distances Thanks dal, that cleared things up a bit
dal2 Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Thanks dal, that cleared things up a bitThere is more to it than that as some families of pigeons appear to have more winners at certain distances hence leading to fanciers using them for that purpose
REDROCKET Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 Most breed names win at all distances but some more at long than short and some more at short than long ect get your birds from a good pigeon man or a reputable stud they will tell you how to fly them most of us are learning all the time good luck.
just ask me Posted April 22, 2015 Report Posted April 22, 2015 its like this for me i wouldnt like to be buying birds from someone that races over 400 mile for years and expect these to win spint races 120 mile or so in a sprint hotbed and the same vice versa of course there will be expections to the rules and im sure people could name many

Surely they aren't rules?
Guest Freebird Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Bearing in mind I know nowt about racing pigeons, I would have thought that there would be a difference in actual body type. Compare top athletes e.g. sprinter with heavy muscled body to a lean marathon runner. Is it not the same for the birds? I would have thought the long distance birds would be smaller built. Would be interesting to hear from some who specialize in one distance or the other or both?
We man Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 Hi I'm new to pigeon racing and I'm trying get my head around long distance and sprint birds How do you tell the differance? The best and easy way to find out is to test them out as far as you can go with them,i don't think there is anyone out there who can look at a pigeon and can tell you and be 100% correct what distance it can fly, plenty think they know but be your own judge, only my own thoughts and good luck to you in the sport.
walterboswell59 Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 jakes right m8 pigeons come in all shapes and sizes with some families being better at distance some families better at sprint but theres no hard and fast rules to type as wee man says you have to test them yourselve

peter pandy Posted April 23, 2015 Report Posted April 23, 2015 In my opinion winning sprinters are advantaged by wind and especially loft location. They seem to be non winning sprinters as the distance increases and the loft location does not equate an advantge. :emoticon-0138-thinking:
