Valiant Fifer Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Well done pal. If only every training toss was like that m8. :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Valiant Fifer Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Best laid plans and all that, Basketted this morning and waited for the sun to break through 9c at midday put them back in the loft 100% returns LOLLike yer style peter lol. Thats what i would call using ur Napper! Most fanciers would have just kept them in the basket once caught and thought to hell with it and went away training. Personally i dont like to train til its about 12c . Think it takes less out of them, especially when their not fit.Just like to go along slowly. It has been dry and sunny lately but a wee bit cold at times so i will only proceed with caution. Can still get cold winds into early May as per the norm.
peter pandy Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Aye you are spot on Fifer and it wont be long till the cauld East winds are arriving. The auld saying "Patience is a Virtue" does not apply to 99% of fanciers.

The auld saying "Patience is a Virtue" does not apply to 99% of fanciers. You are correct i'm afraid Peter. I dont think any of the Big races will be won just now, so i dont see what the hurry is. Iv'e seen all this before, i wont be rushing in just to get my birds burnt out before the season is even half done. I dont want to take out of them what i am slowly hopefully trying to put into them. Just need a fair crack of the whip at the right times.
OLDYELLOW Posted April 8, 2015 Author Report Posted April 8, 2015 looks like going to be another good day today so be off today with local trainer who bought my trailer other year Aye it's a long season with tired birds , mine are flying well around home just a couple of weeks training on good days is all mine will get. You can soon burn them out before season starts hence why started mine when a good break in weather , most just have teams for the first 3 races which get put away until comebacks so gives them a chance to recover
peter pandy Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Beautiful day to-day with blue sky and wisps of white high up and a temp of 18c so decided to basket all yearlings and late breds for a first toss from Peebles 32 miles. Liberated 38 birds in great handling condition at 13.45 clearing South instead of North West. First bird to the loft alone at 16.50 next and all others arrived singly in 15-20 minute breaks with the last one for the day at 20.15. 18 from 38 is a result in kind as the feeding bill is halved and 20 ETS rings need not be purchased but perhaps some will arrive to-morrow. No commisserations required as I do this every year and what we believe are good is found out at the beginning. I know I can safely send them racing in the knowledge that I have rid myself of the duffers and now feel confident in the ability of my team.

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 We have had four perfect tosses. Then today we came home and one of our best distance hens was in the pond and got her out to find she had hit something and broke her neck, gutted about that, they are about forty five miles by road so clockman will tell us the distance in a line of flight
