I think the eyesight of some of us now trying to carry out this procedure would be more of a problem than the actual canker :emoticon-0136-giggle: :emoticon-0136-giggle:

Correct, we used to wet it then rub it over

thats what i was taught buster to cover the canker in the red phosphorus it was a cure for warts also before the new cures came about other old cures were painting the canker lump with iodine then scraping the lump off a few days later and for respitory an old cure was a few drops of tcp in the water if these methods did not work the birds were moved on

ps the red in the match stick is only a dye phosphorus is a white colour in its true form

My father use to race the Boeykens strain and the fella he got them from told him to treasure any that showed the dark tip on their tongue, said they were the breeders.

 

cheers Tony at one point in time I was told that the blue tip was caused by a vitamin deficiency. I think the deficient vitamin was one of the B group.
