Whats the election procedure Tammy?

Take it its not like Trade Unions, all members balloted and return completed voting paper to an independant count? (e.g. electoral society)

lets wait and see Ian

i hope there is enough to get Mr Gibson into the president's seat

i would not vote for someone who lost the presidency of lanarkshire fed only to leave and join a club 30 miles away so to be kept a delegate

this is a chance for the delegates of Scotland to help solve the problems Scotland has had over the last few years by voting for a new president lets hope they have the bottle

Hi Ian

Thats a outrageous statement to make Your delegate will have a free vote

And if your not happy with your delegate remove him at your next AGM

Homer, your delegate will not have a free vote. Your delegate is there to vote for what your federation members wish him to do so. Our fed have a delegates meeting on Friday night and our SHU delegate who is also a fed delegate will be mandated to vote on the majority preference by our members, not on what he wants to do......Good luck to all who are standing....

Thanks for that info, Andy, clear now its down to the wishes of the ordinary members. Wondered how we lowly ones figured in all this ....

surely the shu committee is elected from the federations by the federation members ,not at the shu meeting. each fed according to membership is allowed delegated (SHU COUNCIL) the officials are elected at the shu meeting by the council, who should be instructed by their fed members who to vote for, DELEGATES ARE MESSENGERS,

Not aware here of any delegates meeting that has been called here in Lanarkshire before this meeting, so will our three SHU delegates vote for what or who is best for our fed members and their wishes, or will the SHU delegates from Lanarkshire vote the way they want ? Think I will have to ask them tonight if I can get hold of one of them or if they see this maybe they could do me the courtesy of a phone call.

This is the way it should be done before any decisions are made at delegates meetings Fifer, but I cannot remember any decisions made at delegates meetings being put before the fed members, but I have only been at the last couple in Lanarkshire but even before then cannot remember any being put back to members before delegates made a decision, maybe this is something that should be looked into within our fed ,and that is the delegates deciding what the respective members wish

I have no interest in Querying or replacing our officially elected deligate he is representing our Fed so must thank him for that and doing a good job.

How many of these deligates are or have consulted there members or even the President of there Federation to ask which way to vote.???

I have been unfortunate enought to have had the opportunity of seeing  how they work and there system of fairness.

I hope you never have that opportunity.

Well Lanarkshires three SHU delegates happen to be our President,VicePresident and Junior Vice President

I've put in a telephone call to my secretary asking for information on this election.

Although part of SHU Constitution I honestly feel it is another procedure which hasn't kept pace with the times. I believe it doesn't do justice to either the candidates or the ordinary members: does every SHU member know Scott or John and everything about their background, experience etc? Do we even know for sure who is standing?

The model I have in mind to replace it would be the existing Trade Union or Parliamentary procedure of :

1) candidacy open to any SHU member who can muster a nomination for standing for the post (12 signatures?) ;

(2) that the candidates issue a single page 'elect me because' thumbnail sketch of themselves, telling voters what they have done, and what they hope to do for the SHU if elected;

(3) that these, and a ballot paper, form a mailshot to every SHU member at their home address;

(4) that the completed ballot papers are returned to an independant electoral society for counting.

And I believe the 2 Vice-Presidents should be elected the same way.

Have to agree 100% with every part of your post Bruno. SHU members should vote for who is elected to the SHU committee,

Maybe it what every member of the SHU  should ask for .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
