showman Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 I've been trying to come up with an idea for next years racing. What I'm trying to do is organise some sort of 'competition' for members which would maybe be presented as allowing a more even playing field. Could I even contemplate the idea that an 'also ran' could win it, or will it also be a case that the same names will come to the fore ? My idea was to encourage the 'also rans'. Any ideas folks or is it a forlorn hope ?
gulkie Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 Paul dont know how you could pull this of other than a oneLoft race ,whitch takes a lot of organising ?

andy Burgess Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 Club internal competition ? we used to have a "Ladies nomination " trophy , it was won by the first hen clocked in the 3rd or 4th youngbird race . trophy winner wasnt always a top flier , in fact it was often won by a novice ,or oap .so a fairly level playing field ?
JohnQuinn Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 I think to create a more equal opportunity to all it has to be a Nomination race, where the race takes place late season but nom's have to be in for marking night of first race. £5 a head can make it worth entering and worth winning !!! 3 bird nom from each fancier is how it works in my club.

Wiley Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 We used to have 2 loft over loft shields, was beautiful and prized silverware to win. Everyone pays a fee to enter competition, and a draw is pulled out to make it for example Joe Bloggs vs David Dave, ect, ect. If David times before Joe he is knocked out. Competition goes down to only one person left.

Hard to do? Yes but not year on year. Jmo

gulkie Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 The clubs im in have a knock out compition it dont cost nout you pick 10 birdsOn race night And if you dont pick your 10 its the first 10 on your sheet names Are Drawn from the hat And the one to time in first nomanated bird knocks the other outAnd they go through to the following week. Even playing field.
andy Burgess Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 also had a "knockout" in same club , boy we were spoilt , a trophy for every race plus extra cups and shields to collect if lucky enough .
Kyleakin Lofts Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 A league would give you a better opportunity for fairness, but it would take some time to bed it in. You could form different divisions to keep the lesser lights interested, they would still have the chance of a prize in competition against fanciers of their own ilk.
