Ulsterman Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I was just wondering,is there anyone who doesn't treat their birds at all, even preventive, Just food & water,Grir & Minerals & a clean loft.and if so do you have any sickness at all in your birds, and do you win Races?
VMS Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 We don't treat at all only thing they get is one spot on the neck once a year
BIGPETE Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I went to visit a local flyer the other week. He is an old boy 88 years old and is on a shoe string budget and has to sell the bulk of his yb's each year (for pennies) just to fund the corn etc. He doesn't win much but then to be fair the guy is 88 and not in great health. But his birds look immaculate and he said he has never had much in the way of sickness. The bird he sells the buyers have had decent wins (And come back each year so they can't be bad). He believes the reason is he doesn't have any incoming birds be it gift or bought in over 20 years so his birds are inbred as hell and bred from generations of birds that have not been treated and are hard as nails. I am not saying he is right or wrong or this is true or not. But I can see the logic from his argument and can testify his birds looked fantastic (in a loft most of us would say wasn't fit to race to).
Tony C Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 No preventative treatment given for about 10 years now. In saying that I would treat if my team went down with something, individual pigeons are removed should they go down with something. I win my fair share.
Delboy Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I treat for everything, just in case lol. Joking aside, as little treatment as possible in racing and none whatsoever ( no matter what ) in the off season.
PATTY BHOY Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Give garlic and cider vinegar in the water and worm that's all.
Ulsterman Posted September 21, 2014 Author Report Posted September 21, 2014 I,m thinking of NOT treating my birds at all next year,i was just wondering if its a bad idea or not.going by the above replies I think I might just do it.thanks for the replies everyone.
walterboswell59 Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 years ago i would not treat for anything if a going light tablet or some raw coxoid down the throat did not cure what ever a bird had it went in the bin but in those days i won nothing but an odd race or or two
