Just had a call from a guy in Fraserburgh who when picking up a Yb from a fancier in Forfar, was given another 7 ybs and asked to throw them up in Aberdeen. Take it these so called fanciers have never heard of the SHU stray centre or does this Federation just ignore the fact that they are required to put on a basket for strays on a Friday and have them delivered to the Stray centre for repatriation. Unfortunately the guy couldnt remember the name of the fancier concerned, but I,ll be on to the SHU, to have reminder sent out to the Forfar guys.

Don't usually get involved in this stuff but as you are criticising my club and federation I feel I must respond.

1. I know who the fancier was and commend him for helping get birds back to their lofts as soon as possible. He asked if any other members had NE or AB pigeons to bring them to him as someone was collecting them

2. There is a stray crate on our transporter every week but we don't get that many strays up here from south of us.

3. If the strays had been sent on our transporter they would have been delivered to the stray centre on Sunday (the day we were racing). I don't think Aberdeen and North of Scotland Federations go to the stray centre until they are racing from Arniston. (Aberdeen are there this week). Therefore the pigeons would have been at the stray centre for a week when they were in fact back in their lofts.

4. Our members often meet the N o S lorry on the A90 to hand over strays or collect our birds which have gone north. Are you seriously suggesting that every bird should be sent to the stray centre where it could sit for a week before being collected. Because we now have the SHU ring list pigeons can be returned to their lofts much quicker than they used to be. I see Wuldon has released an AB doo in Aberdeen today. Would you rather he sent it to Broxburn on Saturday?

5. I would like you to name who you are referring to as "so called fanciers". Some of the best fanciers in Scotland are members of my club and if you are referring to any of them I am sure they will be most annoyed. I don't think we would go running to the SHU but an apology on here will be the least expected.

David, sending an East of Scotland Yb to Fraserburgh to be liberated is no doing anyone any favours, least of all the wee yb, how would you feel if I sent all the AF ones down to Blackpool and threw them up, and if you know who this fancier is who sent my yb to Fraserburgh please tell him thanks very much, for nothing. Oh and just for the record he didnae even have the decency to look at the wingstamp and give me a call before he sent it a hundred n odd miles North of me to be libbed

As far as I was aware they were NE and AB rung birds. If one had your stamp on it I cant explain that but your original post gave the impression that all strays must be sent to the stray centre. By the way the stray centre don't always check wing stamps either. I still await your apology for saying our federation ignore the SHU stray centre and who the "so called fanciers" are. As for your statement regarding sending AF birds to Blackpool (or Portsmouth as you stated on other thread), I think we will just ignore that.

Aye well I,,l await you members apology for sending SU 14 E yes E 1309 to freeking Fraserburgh and if h had done the right thing and put it in the stray basket it would have been sitting in my loft now instead of sitting in Fraserburgh.

Well I`m afraid I cant understand how that happened as the guy is able to get doos tossed near Edinburgh so wouldn't have knowingly sent it north. I`ll try and find out though. If you had said at the start it was an E rung bird it would have saved a lot of confusion

Think any youngster fed and watered, rested has earned the respect of those taking the care and time to do so. Also any person willing to help and take strays closer to home should have a thank you and pat on the back. Yes, maybe sometimes a mistake or unfortunate occurrence happens ... but to slate any one for trying and most doing their best to help can and should be forgiven. As for any bird having a 'E' ring that matters not a jot. Mine have SU, R's, P's X's and others so what. Think Henrik when you cool down, see the light of day and smell the coffee you should gracefully withdraw you posts and comments. Indeed make many more think 'If that's the treatment for trying help I get, then they can get stuffed'. And even more won't bother!

imo a yb that enters my loft is always isolated and fed/watered until fit to leave, if possible I will always get it libbed near home so at least it has had to get home itself rather than be returned in a box from the stray centre... the yb I had libbed this morning will be fit to go racing next week end no problem... young birds that return from the stray centre are never a success in the race basket again the same year from my experiences!

Spot on Willie and less chance of getting diseases from the stray centre

Due to work etc, only logging onto site today. Perhaps you should not make general derogatory comments about "so called fanciers". I can assure you that their are more helpful and obliging fanciers in the Forfar club than you are liable to get in any other club in Britain. It would appear to me that in trying to do a favour he has got it wrong on your part. It might be worth your while when on to the SHU, TO GET THEM TO REMIND ALL CLUBS THAT YOUNGSTERS SHOULD BE WING STAMPED(i note that yours was). We as a club, under the guidance and leadership of men like Dave Liddle run a very tight ship and we do know about the stray centre. It never ceases to amaze me that people don't see the good in others and are always ready to criticise. AW THE BEST

Well I spoke to the guy last night and if he did send the E rung doo north it was a genuine mistake and unlike some he was man enough to apologise if that is what happened. As he said he is down near the Forth Bridge every day and would toss birds from that direction down there. The GB bird had previously been tossed from Rosyth and came back and as he was inundated with north doos he assumed it was from there (note no wing stamp as per SHU instructions) and from previous bad experience if you report birds which belong down south many don't want to or cant afford to pay for a courier and want them disposed of. (these are you "so called fanciers" imo). Good luck in the young bird national, watch out for the so called fanciers from Forfar though.

Well the fancier from Fraserburgh has kindly put my pigeon on their transporter to Cowdenbeath. Hopefully she,ll be able to negotiate the 10 or so miles back home now.

Just wondering if you got your pigeon back, I've been lost in Cowdenbeath many times and never had to negotiate distances of 10 miles AW THE BESTwink.gifwink.gif
