Who said there was 500 missing from last weeks nat bigda and have you got any proof or 1st class information on this , to justify your statement

there is a problem  and it will have to be addressed and i think they should get the GPS out for these races to see exactly where the problem is  if you ask me its happening around the

solway area east or west of it, so  get 500 birds with the gps on them and do a  race next year before we run out of time  and should the deviate of the line of flight we can have a case against the rspb if its a hawk problem :o

when you seek out the right figures , and the amount of birds that were away ,you will find that there is almost 500 home is that not what you ment to say .

not a problem as someone  says you do  tend exaggerate a bit mate,

harry its good that  you try and stick up for yer nat but if you could go abit further and see why your birds are not even homing  then i would think more of the distance man and your races  at present it looks like  yous are not to bothered as to why the birds of this era are not making it back  and the ones that did make it  are very venerable for there next race in  0, 10

I may be wrong here but I was of the opinion that the technology associated with the present pigeon GPS system is crude. The bird must home to have the system interfaced with a PC. to tell which route it has taken. The system does not transmit a signal.

That's not what we are interested in----we are interested in the pigeons which fail to return so what would be the point in such a race.

This was a theme that arose within the SNFC YB Race thread, which seemed worthy of decent discussion by some. Air your views, but please remain civil to opposing views, and keep on topic. Some off-topic material already removed. Thanks.

the gps  can have  a transmitter on it and should the bird go down just like they have  a transmitter to find lost people on a mountain it can be traced and the  bird that did make it back  it can be  look at to see if something changed its flight path on route  as these birds  never seem to fly  to there true velocity's  in to Scotland birds timed in at 1 clock to day  dose that  say they where  close to home  or dose it say they they where still at the race point this morning

That technology is not available at the moment as far as I know.

If it were then it would be ideal.

At the moment such a race is outwith our capeabilities.

Note----I have just had mail from a friend in Witney in Oxfordshire saying the weather there at the moment is ideal for pigeon racing.

Isnt the Gem one £125 each? Whats the cheapest one to buy, as it can become quite costly. I,ve always said that it would be great to see the pigeons progress during a race. Have a dedicated web site, where theres a subscription. Type in the serial number of a specific pigeons microchip thats at the race, and the satelite finds it and shows the progress being made right to the loft. Sounds far fetched but it would give a clear indication of what is happening during the flight. Unfortunately it would never take of, as with all the losses we are facing, which pigeon do you attach it too?

What about your beloved fed losing 4000 in one race from Wetherby Danny, have you forgot about that. ;)

i don't know how much the chip cost but  if we had a mock race and had 6 experienced fanciers  give there opinion on birds that should make it home,   the experienced fanciers would check and  judge on handling, health wise,  buoyancy, and nest condition, and they chose  amount of birds  for a 150-250 mile race  on a week day and see why its hard  to race  gem one is £120  but if we could get  say 200 chips  we might have a chance of finding out,  as what is happening, a grant from  the council  may help as its to do with the community and they have community grants
