SNFC Ypres

In the past years a lot has been made of the great war 100 year anniversary race from Ypres. Indeed you would be let to believe this was the reason for the decision to have a race from Ypres/Ieper.

Now all of a sudden there is little fanfair, I may of course be wrong and tv cameras will be present at the marketing etc, but I am unsure hence the mail. This race represents a readily marketable opportunity for the Scottish fanciers to put a positive and empathic view of our sport across to the public with a story that will resonate . Least we forget pigeons and peace are inextricably linked. We have to ensure this is done. Of course with will this can be achieved at any time but the anniversary is a marketing opportunity. I hope we have cameras prepared and are preparing a short promotional video

When I mention the race from Ypres at work , I may be egging the race up by calling it the war race but there is considerable interest in the race.

This is not about winning the race the race individually but winning for our sport, let’s do something positive

If you should win please don’t call it the good blue clock, call it something memorial and marketable for the public. My two prepared for the race have been called Menin Gate & Poppy respectively all year should they fall at the hurdle (like I guess so many 100 years ago) please feel free to take the names or improve upon them but let’s get the liberation & winners into the wider public domain

To opportunistically borrow from Kitchener's immortal words “Your sport needs you, this is an opportunityâ€

Good luck to all who send

This is directed to all the expert race controllers on here. Will we get a race on Saturday? Based on the current forecast do you think the marking should be delayed or brought forward?

serious question Derek. its easy criticising after the race. there was nobody on here condemning controllers on Saturday morning but plenty after the event. only one childish reply to my question from someone who should know better

The fact of the matter is, everybody I know, including the west section winner, couldn't believe the doos got up on Saturday. A *expletive removed* blind man could see it wasn't a good call.I know that these controlling jobs are thankless etc and the boys take some stick, when in fact they are only doing their best. My point is , their best wasn't good enough on this occasion, no fence sitting here.

3 questions Jade.

1. Did you have birds at the race?

2. Did you Time in ?

3. If you were racing, were you happy at the day and time they were liberated?

That was my real concern on all the other posts I wrote on this subject on another thread, you need look no further than the NFC centenary race to see what can happen when film crews are involved when they threatened to pull out because the race controller wanted to hold the birds, they were liberated and it was a monumental disaster with 60,000 doos involved which put many top lofts out the game for years. Having previously worked in the TV and film industry I know how good producers are at getting it all their own way and calling the shots.

1. Yes

2. No

3. I thought they had taken a risk liberating when they did but I am not going to condemn them as they didn't deliberately liberate to give us a bad race. Demanding resignations when they are doing what they thought was right is out of order in my opinion.

In view of your lack of confidence in the controllers I take it you wont be sending to Ypres or Ancenis

Just spoke to my laddie about Ypres I dearly wanted to send but in light of sat and the other things going on about the race I think wee will give it a miss I wish everybody who sends a good race with good returns as it's been for years from this race

Aye i'll be going to Ypres, its the biggest race i for me in the Fed and they canny get it THAT wrong again but you bet yer boots al be in the SNRPC next year.

Well best of luck to you whenever the race is. I notice nobody has stuck there neck on the line to say the marking should be changed. If that was to happen the decision would have to be made tonight.
