I think the answer is everyone to make applications to there federations to start racing in first week of May all we are doing is fattening them up by starting so early , if we are to make any difference in there numbers we need to change our ways so we don't fatten them up before going to nest in our early season .

I agree with last post if we are to fight this we have to think back to nature ie, are we providing their food when they most need it nesting, rearing ,we start thinking about letting birds out ,training, racing at this time ,put back old bird racing ,combine some old and young bird races ,change our ideas ,its 12 year since i raced and nothing has changed in this subject since i was last in this position ,either work through feds and orginisations to change things or there is little point in moaning on year in year out !!!

guys your kidding yourself on all wild life ajust there breeding cycle to when theres most prey on offer and just like when there was not many bop down the east side and we got a few good years now the east is as bad or worse because the bop ajust and go where the prey is we all know how to sort this get your m8s and club involved and get it done

I think your kidding yourself that doing the same as we've done for years aint added to the bop numbers if we continue to feed them there numbers are going to go unchecked even if odd one hits a window / car or whatever accident it may have , yes bops will find prey but will have a harder time of it as they should have if nature was in balance but it aint , we are creating a imbalance just like the R.S.P.B have by releasing these bops , your either a part of the problem or a part of the solution . Here's just one part start later a few less fat bop going to nest and struggle to rear will have more impact than a few accidents and the end result is less bops simple really :)

Hi Mark,

Just saying something similar to blackdog last night, forget about old bird racing (weather's just about killing both of us,start too soon etc.)breed youngens end of March early April, you could even buy them in because most fanciers have what they want and youngens are cheaper.

Food for thought next season.????

Well judging by the photos we see regularly they aint taking what we would want . Starting later would benefit our birds :)

Completely with ya I shall make proposals for next season we tend to get crap weather early season and good weather at back end and if we nudge our season a few weeks to May we could resolve a lot of problems and needless losses :)

thats because not enough are willing to to do something to help yellow needs a bit of effort from all not just 2 or 3 of us

also starting racing later is not going to help all the guys birds on here that are getting attacked at the loft it will just make the problem worse if there is nothing racing to eat the loft attacks will increase guys but its up to you im trying to help my area and my self talks cheap

Plenty been done in my area to deter the attacks , guess I'm unfortunate never to see one around my loft , but I lost one a week ago today and I'm certainly not sitting on my hands ;) I've also advised others who are getting hit I know plenty of country lads ;)

Walter is right. There are too many people in this sport who will sit on their hands and wait for others to do the necessary.

The few of us who are prepared to do what is needed are outweighed by the vast majority who do as little as possible.

I agree with what has been said, this is a problem that has to be faced because there is no magic bullet and things will not suddenly

get better. I think there are people out there who have ideas on how to manage this problem and we should be able to share these ideas.

The problems we have are that we are so far apart on the one hand and although we have plenty of means on communication there will always be

someone listening to what we have to say.

For my own part, I am considering packing in the birds at the end of the year. To be honest in spite of the fact that I enjoy having the birds and

after working hard to develop a good winning system the joy has gone out of it for me. I have reached the stage when I dread leaving the birds out

for exercise and I hate seeing them terrified of being outside and vulnerable to the predators.

over last 3 years lost one bird around loft each year total of 3 all around same time ................

I am not sure what the answer is but i do know up here we have had a very good open winter hardly any harsh weather ,no doubt the hawk will have flourished in this good weather and the breeding pairs will have multiplied, I have had 2 hits in 2 weeks my mate ,300yds down the road got one taken this week ,doesnt bode well for us !!!

What we need to do is get as many fanciers together from our own areas that are willing to fight the problem and set up some type of system or group to get rid of the problems before they clean uz out , cause the problems arnt going to go away there selfs they are going to worse before getting better and the only way we are going to rid our sport of these problems is to stick together and fight cause we arent able to solve it with just the odd fanciers fighting we need everyone , it's the only way we can save the sport we all love

I know it's hard but don't let it get you,s down yes times have changed wee need to change with it and learn to live with it wee would all be lost without the birds so take your time and adjust
