Advice needed . I have a white grizzle cock . what is the best colour of hen to pair him up with so they can throw anything but a white.

His sire was a white grizzle his dam was a blue cheq white flight

It's very much a lucky dip but any dark pigeon would be the best bet. Blue is also acceptable. I always avoid red to grizzle as that often breeds red grizzle.

A nice blue every time for me ;) depends what you want really :)

Anything but white I have a crows nest a few gardens away and last year I had a couple of whites The crows chased them every time there were out

They must have thought they were young gulls which we have a lot of as well. It also think there the first birds seen by Bops because of there colour.

You dont see may white one on the front page of the BHW as winners

I have more leisure time than anything else forced on me by bad health, the doos keep me sane but i can only spend short times with them so cant muck about with paper n pencil ,hence the idea cheers.

I have a pair of Rolland Janssens blue chequer cock ,grizzle hen ,young have been chequer PD blue pd

And the odd grizzle. My advice is a dark chequer to your white.

I have a Wh Gr Ck and paired him to a Dk Cheq last year. All youngsters were Grizzles but NOT White. The Grizzle pattern dominates most Yb's bred from them but that is only my experience of breeding from them.

Thanks John I might just go with a dark hen

As has been stated already a Blue, Blue Cheq or Dark Cheq would do the job except that you will probably still have a percentage of grizzles. Try to avoid birds with white in their make up because you need to try to avoid any birds with pied or grizzle in their make up.

I have light grizzle, white and very dark pigeons. I never select using colour, strain, size or anything but performance so my birds are paired together without regard to colour. My best two racers are grizzles and they seem to cope with everything in the big bad World.

In my loft it is very much the "Survival of the fittest". I believe that the only thing of interest is the ability to win races, everything else is of little or no importance.

any blue based bird would do no matter of the pattern. deffo stay away from reds. our check grizzles seem to look whiter than the blue bars so a would go for a blue bar

Sounds as if the bird is homozygous typical grizzle. Would help if we had a photo of the bird. If it a homo grizzle, pairing it to a non grizzle will give you 100% heterozygous typical grizzle youngsters.

I have a very good red grizzle cock the hawks must chase him home because he is faster than my rest at 510 miles. :002: :002:

I think most fanciers are easily swade by rumour or fashion. I have a lot of reds, opals silvers pieds and grizzles of red and blue none have gone missing from the loft.

It does not matter what colour bird is or colour it produces as long as they are reliable doos for you ,but on saying that the grizzle i had was paired with dark cheq hen .

gav, if you have to breed the doo go for a dark hen, whites or white grizzles or gay pied birds dont make the grade up here and i know where youre coming from with the crows and nesting gulls they will kill everything or chase them into wires or poles as i have experienced in the past, blues or dark ceck is best round home and training, start racing then that is a different matter but reds, mealy, silver and pieds with a lot of white in my experience arnt usually there at the tally up at the end of the day . jmho davy.
