Guest Owen Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Cayenne pepper is used by canary people to colour feed their birds. If you feed it to birds during the time the birds are growing new feathers the colour of the feathers will intensify. You can buy the proper stuff in pet shops where they cater for small birds.

greenlands Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 The hotness produced by cayenne is caused by its high concentration of a substance called capsaicin. Technically referred to as 8-methyul-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide, capsaicin has been widely studied for its pain-reducing effects, its cardiovascular benefits, and its ability to help prevent ulcers. Capsaicin also effectively opens and drains congested nasal passages.
Guest Owen Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 chad3646sorry mate. Just shows you what can happen when an arrogant git interferes with things they should leave to others. I kept Yorkshire Canaries during the sixties and I knew I had to give them a colour feed but I made a terrible mess of it. I am colour blind and could not see the difference between colour fed birds and normal ones so I packed it up in frustration.I then turned to Border Canaries which went well and I made a nice bit of money from them which helped towards the purchase of my first house.Sorry!

W.D. Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 There is an article on elimar, just been reading on a NRCC man,Peter Crawford, that might be of interest? This is what he says:- Also if you want a good one for respiration, use some cayenne pepper. Put some oil on the food and use some of the pepper, a couple of times a day, and that will clear the tubes out as clean as a whistle
