Rooster J. Cogburn Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 What are members experiences with the use of small seeds, oil seeds, conditioning mixes etc and the pigeon's moult? Heard some say their use can accelerate the moult and others say its nonsense. What's your thoughts ?

yeboah Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 certain seeds heat? could this be true Lewis??Yes think heat stevie like hemp ,my yb night section is warm and fully ventilated they are falling to bits but perfect health so would agree heat .
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted May 17, 2013 Author Report Posted May 17, 2013 certain seeds heat? could this be true Lewis?? You've kept doos a lot longer than me Stevie It's something I've thought about for a wee while. I'm kinnae weary of using a lot of red band , hemp etc early in the year with doos intended for the nationals, but I once heard a top fancier saying the only things that will effect your doo's moult are nest cycle and the hours of darkness. Was after some views and experiences on it

Was after some views and experiences on it The prob for complete natural flying when looking for the water races is the wing moult for me. This is just my opinion cos loads of fanciers, including members of my own family, race natural all year!!! Hoddom Dynamo won the nat when way into the moult(maybe just exceptional) but the moult is deffo easier controlled without the nest!!! We do use Hemp alot when nearer the time!!

andy Burgess Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 in the short time ive kept them , and from experience , ive found the only difference feeding the seed of any brand or type is the silky-ness of the feathering .at first no seed was given , and they moulted well , when instructed to give seed ,they still moulted well , but looked better ,thats for sure ,jmho.

JohnQuinn Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 IMO Lewis, the only determining factor in the moult is the nest cycle, i feed LOTS of small seed mixtures to mine and as yet they haven't thrown a flight this year because i split them after 1 round of Yb's. If i had let the sit 7 or more days on a second nest the moult would have kicked in.
