Delboy Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 a lot down south wok highest prize winner on points and not time and distance so as some i know fly well but dont send to last 2 races on channell so are automatically out of averages but still highest prize winner . You have highest prize winner as a separate thing Rab, im talking about averages. The highest prize winner is the best flier that year usually.imo. I remember a guy winning the Glasgow fed averages and only getting one fed ticket.

cemetary Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 A just love hane the birds around my own garden, going out every morning to open up the huts and letting them out hane a coffee and watching them fly, ave been like that for almost 20 years, yes, i put ma birds to the race, i want to win, but i like the buzz seeing the first one drop to me, but hey, am last again, so what, enjoy the doos thats all i doo.

dava Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 looking forward to the coming season ive a few ambitions i would love to achieve but as we all know in this game your season can turn upside down in one race but if the doos put the same effort in as im prepared to we hopefully should do ok

I watched a partnership lift most of the fed trophies one year in the n.west fed and another partnership won the fed 9 weeks in a row and got next to nothing.Without doubt the guys winning 9 in a row were the top fliers in the fed but a few folk disagreed with that??
Tony C Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 Why are you not interested in averages? To give one definitive answer would be wrong so I'll give a few reasons but in no real order. Have lost good pigeons in the past chasing averages. The London Combine is all but finished. The Combine was our only means of sending to 500 miles and was regarded as our Blue Ribbon event. As Feds got smaller they started protecting what birdage they had by basically giving us sprint programs so much so that we dont have a Fed race over 200 miles any more. Consequently the distance pigeons and methods have made way for sprinters............... horses for courses. The Combine races are part of our averages, the die hards who still house distance pigeons invariably win the averages and good luck to them. I have found that closing down the loft for a week is better than any medication. As I've got older I've mellowed. Holidays are no longer planned around the racing season, family get togethers are now attended etc. etc. It works out I miss 3-4 races a year = out of averages.
