knoxjn Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 hi folks just been to the new council offices in tranent that have been named after my grandfather george johntone he saved 50 guys in a pit accident at the old fleets pit the site of iri at elphinstone in 1929 he was awarded a medal and a silver engraved watch . he died when i was 11 and is always in my thoughts a true working class hero many thanks to those involved for this wonderful gesture
