andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Hi all!! Basically, We have had 2 young bird races this season, the 1st one the winner was in at 10:04 and i didn't get one until 10:24! The 2nd race the winner for one club was in at 9:34, My 1st bird came at 9:38 (managing to get 4th) and for the other club, the winner was in at 9:33 and i didn't get one until 9:42! both races where from the same race point, Kettering (74miles) My bird fly spot on, The look fine and there droppings are fine, even sent a testing kit of and that said that they was 100% healthy!! Does anyone out there think that there could be something wrong with them? If so, Let me know i'd really be grateful!!
Wiley Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 If you sent if a test kit and said they are 100% healthy, and the birds are being trained well I'd be looking that the birds just aren't good enough
andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Report Posted August 1, 2012 They haven't had top amount's of training, But look at the weather don't think anyone has managed to get the training in they wanted. Thanks for your reply though.
billt Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 As long as they are healthy what ever you do in racing if the club sends 100 birds there will always be a first and last pigeon
andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Report Posted August 1, 2012 Cheers for that, Just where i am, If they aren't there to win People make me paranoid and say how they must be ill! Was just wanting someone to shine the light to be honest!

Was just wanting someone to shine the light to be honest! It's a bit like the olympics, you have all the top performers from all over the world but you can only have one winner
andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Report Posted August 1, 2012 Actually i never looked at it like that, I saw i was behind for 2 weeks on the trot so i just thought that there might be something up with there, Never mind, see how they come this week!
Tony C Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Have you a routine with your pigeons. By that i mean are they fed the same time everyday, exercised the same time everyday, trained the same time everyday. Having pigeons healthy is only part of the equation!

You can only do your best and then of course you need that magic ingredient, a little bit of luck

Of course i do,my routine is down to the minute, Nothing is ever out of place weather permitting ofc, If i was planing on letting them out at 7, And it was raining but starting to clear i'd hold them in until it steadys down.

If so, Let me know i'd really be grateful!! ill say this as straight as i can but not meaning it to sound bad... your birds werent simply good enough!!..fullstop!maybe on another day you will be a head of others and that means their birds werent good enough! you have to get your feeding right ..maybe your feeding to heavy?remember leady birds wont win anything...they must be like corks but fed properly.what corn are you feeding and how much?
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Have your club winners birds been on the darkness system?Have your birds been on the darkness system? The first season we tried darkness the darkness YBs beat the natural youngsters, both of which had equal training,by around 5-10 minutes weekly. The further out they got the further behind the natural youngsters fell behind with the exception of one which was around 12 weeks old when it went into the 3rd young bird race of the year. Are your club winners birds on any type of celibate or widowhood system?are yours on any form of celibate or widowhood system? How many training tosses before the first race have your club winners birds had?how many training tosses have your birds had? Theres a few questions you could ask yourself if your birds are visibly healthy before assuming there is something wrong with them

Not been funny, But i know what i'm doing when it comes down to feeding them. This isn't my 1st year, I raced last year. Prizing from every single young bird race, Using the same corn and methods that i'm using now. I'm not sure of the price of the corn but it's some what i get from my local corn store with popcorn maize, can't even think of the name of the top of my head.

Theres a few questions you could ask yourself if your birds are visibly healthy before assuming there is something wrong with them Mine have been on darkness yeah, Same as most fellow club members, They had about 12 tosses before the 1st race, Same as most club members,I am the only club member at the min with hens and cocks parted of, I did this last year and made me have some good results, and as i see it, when you find a method that works, stick with it.
andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Report Posted August 1, 2012 for early races you might be feeding to heavy a feeding? what are you feeding? i feed a mix of corn with popcorn maize, I used this last year, And prized from 74mile - 195mile So i think i can rule the corn out
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 well if your confident your not doing anything wrong as far as feeding, training, moult and motivation is concerned and your birds are visibly healthy you could heed some of the above advice-get a test kit for throat swabs and droppings samples or keep doing what your doing, once its further out if all is well you should get your turn

I know it sounds daft making this post but i thought maybe there could be something that the test didn't wouldn't find.

andyyy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Report Posted August 1, 2012 do you toss your birds from the same places as the people who have won your club the last two weeks?how does your loft location compare with theirs? I dont toss in the same place as anyone in my club + the loft location is pretty near one who won it one week and it's no where near the other guys!

I'm just clutching at straws Only you'll know if they are right or not.Was just listing a few reasons why you can be behind from short races without your birds being sick.Where you train your birds can be one Best of luck with the rest of your racing and hope ye get a run of form like last year
