Daisymay Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Did anyone see Scotland today and the footage of an Osprey chick being snatched from the nest, they said it was a buzzard but it looked more like a Sparrahawk, the film was to fast and you would think they would slow it down for all to see,you can probably get it on u-tube and you will get it on the i-player,would be interesting to see what other people think, the reason I ask for you opinion is that the RSPB said they would start culling the buzzards if this is what they are getting up to,if it turns out to be a Sparra lets see what stand they take then. John
Walter swanston Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 It was definetly a buzzard, incidentally one of my club members had a buzzard enter his loft and have a go at a young bird the other week.
Daisymay Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 It was definetly a buzzard, incidentally one of my club members had a buzzard enter his loft and have a go at a young bird the other week. Pity Walter was to good to be true.
billt Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Why would the RSPB be allowed to cull buzzards they keep telling us it's only nature
Daisymay Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Walter had another look,it seem's to fast for a buzzard, look again.
airdrie2 Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 not seen it yet but strange trait for a buzzard was it def a buzzard in loft if so must have been a y/b
Guest bigda Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 the fish farmers, will be able to aford a holliday this year eh
billt Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 As you say too quick to tell, could be female gos.
Guest bigda Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 i think it was a goshawkhttp://news.stv.tv/north/108167-dramatic-footage-shows-buzzard-snatching-osprey-chick-from-its-nest/
Guest stb- Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 ITS A GOSHAWK PUT IT ON FULL SCREEN PAUSE AT 6 SECONDS LEAVE PAUSE ON AND DRAG LINE TO 6 AND A HALF SECONDS THERE YOU HAVE A STILL PIC OF A GOOS HAWK
b.massey Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Came out saying someone needs to protect other birds from the BOP.... We have been saying this for years!!! Our birds need protected also
Walter swanston Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 There is doubt what the predator is in the case of my clubmate the predator came to an untimely end definitely a buzzard
Guest bigda Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 they seem to think its ok for the osprey to take fish, as there prey, but dont like the other part, i can see this hawk under cross hairs from now on. and i dont think it would take much of a shot to take a buzzard out.
billt Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Buzzards have never been a problem to me and I'm quite remote although there are lots in my area, now the goshawk is my biggest problem, far worse than Percy to me, they do go in my farm buildings chasing pigeons as will the female sparrow hawk
JohnQuinn Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 I focused on the tail, imo its a hen sparrow hawk.
john cumming Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 to save any more debate lets just take them all out, problem solved kinda john
just ask me Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 looks like a buzzard to me also there a second one in the vid for 1 or 2 seconds
Kyleakin Lofts Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 I would agree that there definitely looks like there are 2 of them, but the speed of the attack seems to indicate other than a buzzard.
Guest bluemorning Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 its a gos the parents would not move off the nest for a buzzard or a spar
Daisymay Posted June 28, 2012 Author Report Posted June 28, 2012 its a gos the parents would not move off the nest for a buzzard or a spar Think your right
hawked again Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 ITS A GOSHAWK PUT IT ON FULL SCREEN PAUSE AT 6 SECONDS LEAVE PAUSE ON AND DRAG LINE TO 6 AND A HALF SECONDS THERE YOU HAVE A STILL PIC OF A GOOS HAWK -----------------If you do a frame at at time the attack only lasts for 9 frames. At the start there is another BOP flying from left to right at the top of the screen and at the end of the attack lasting for 2 frames is another BOP either joining the attacker or going to attack it.

JohnQuinn Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 Aye i seen the second BOP in the stills, it may have been a decoy and the Osprey was going to chase it off while the other raided the nest. Taking it frame by frame i saw a white underside to the wings and now think it may well have been a Buzzard after all.
