greenlands Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Here's my young bird team 21 of them, some not on the pics.
Roland Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Are these the youngsters from new stock mucker? Always been led to believe it takes a little time to hold their youngsters and build a team. but achieved one gets to have a reliable team. That is if the birds are of the standard one wants and wished for. Mind I must say they look the buisness and in very fine fettle.
greenlands Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 Hi Roland, youngsters off new stock are still in the nest, will be keeping them to breed off next season along with their parents.
Fly_caster Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Very nice they are too Lindsay ! And better than the ones you lost LOL ! (As well as somewhat more educated !) Best of luck with them, Steve
greenlands Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 Better than the ones I lost Steve that's something we'll never know, two of those were reported dead another returned minus an eye. Time will only tell. Good birds get lost as well as bad. Ask the fanciers in my area one loosing four Fed winners in one go. Lindsay
Guest strapper Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 hi lindsay m8.....they dont last long these days m8...ive lost 16 at least now off the loft and around it...my newest recruits well one is gone 1st time out...they were a little bit old but 11 stayed. lost 9 older ybs in 1 go then another 5...none reported.
alex young Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Nice to see them looking well Lindsay after their ordeal, all the best with them.
Guest Owen Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Now there's something I will never understand. Why would you breed youngsters and plan to breed with them without testing them on the road? Surely the idea is to test the progeny of the bought in birds so that you can find the right direction to breed.

Wiley Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 as thay are only in the nests now a bit late for racing best kept for stock as he has said. Kirky they wouldn't be to late to be raced. I topped the federation last season with a young bird hatched on the 1st a June to be fair it didn't race the whole programme but it had the last 4 races of the season. Greenland the team look well and wish you the best of luck with them.
Roland Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Have some eggs still to be hatched, and I fuly exspect them to fly the programme... some may well get lost etc. But not as many %tage wise as the Earlier bred ones that's for sure. as told several times by the IO'ld brigade 'Egg or young in May will fly all the way'! That is as true now as it has always been. Many didn't pair till April and took two rounds to fly them through.
JohnQuinn Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Because the birds I got in are top notch all winning good races in good company.Do fanciers buy late breds in to race or to put to stock ?? When i get new stock in i rarely race them as young birds so that i can get some Yb's off them the following year, then they go into my race team. Good as well as bad get took by Pylons and Percy's so i like to have young birds out of them before risking their lives in the basket.Occasionally i keep incomers for stock only but they have to be out of something very special and be to my liking to be kept.
greenlands Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 These are two pair of the three that I have just got in,young will be ready to ring over the weekend.
