Rooster J. Cogburn Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Been looking over the Piet Deweerdt grading system of late. Will have a wee look at the birds this year and see if the returns/results conform wi what he says
greenlands Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 My best racing hen 03 bird eight firsts and other tickets now in stock loft, not a tusk in sight.
buster151 Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 ok for us novices will someone explain what is a tusk please
OLDYELLOW Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Tusks are wattles that are grown on the underneath of the bottom beak they resemble tusks , have heard throughout the years especially with the bushaerts that the tusk hens tend to be good breeders it's not a common trait in the more modern strains these days . Although I have handled one hen recently with these traits and even without the tusks I would of liked this hen
fieldwalker Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 iv got a janssen hen with them neither like or dislike them, its her first year breeding so il see if its passed on to her offspring.i doubt its a indicator of quality maybe just a family traight, but eyes on the other hand.......
Wiley Posted April 27, 2012 Report Posted April 27, 2012 Tbh I've noticed the Tasker hens that have this produce my best birds had a few laffys with them that were exceptional in the breeding pen
