weecunny Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 well comon then .what will u be treating ur birds for and why.
robbiedoo. Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 why treat when there is no need your doos should be in good health .
leighton1984 Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 hope i do not have to treat them.
Roland Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Nothing, they don't need any. Mind if they ever need a helping hand, which they may from time to time, I'd treat for that pacific. Would also question the constitution of any bird ill ... especially if other don't get affected. Would of course take note and thinkany bird not showing symptom may turn out to be a carrier.
weecunny Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 well the bit a dont get is how come they need it when they are mixing every week at thr races
Guest Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 during moult! treat for nothin! if a bird goes bad and others arent then nut it
weecunny Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 and after the molt what do u give them is it just good old water and corn nothing else
Guest Davy Fleming Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 NO WAY should a bird be ill at this time and if it is then GET RID as never be any use or you are just kidding yourself on
Guest strapper Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 birds can be ill at ANY time of year! and too think that clean water and good corn will keep bugs and viruses away is simply foolish.. for the want of a better word. many a good bird has been ill and gone on to prove it was worth taking time out to cure it. now when they are all stuck in lofts with dust and feathers everywhere this can be the time when resp infections comes calling . birds are now kept together in the loft longer than summer days and now racing is over the fitness of the birds will drastically be reduced ,hence posibilities of infections, the bird is under stress and its a well known fact that when a human is stressed thats when the imune system can be affected. there will be some that have a routine and dont treat...but i will treat for the common illnesses depending on what the droppings are like after the moult. also i will treat for paratyphoid. birds need to be cleaned out b4 the breeding season comes around. this is my routine and it works for me...this year i had no problems with ANY infections in youngbirds....maybe i was lucky?
robbiedoo. Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 the next treatment my doos will get is a 4 in 1 pill and that will be in the end of may when i change from natrual to roundabout .
cemetary Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 well comon then .what will u be treating ur birds for and why. Well firstly you, rabies, then vitamins, lithilad, aids, then a jag, ;D ;D ;D ;D
blaz Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 well the bit a dont get is how come they need it when they are mixing every week at thr races the reson for treatment in racing season is the birds are more likely to pick something up in the basket as most transporters have a communal drinkers. we also put our birds under a lot of strain .with training and racing .making them more submittable to diseases . it only takes one or two to drink with ie canker it is then in the water all birds in that row now have a chance of catching it from the water.you get one home that has picked it up the he or she goes for a drink in loft it is now in your drinker for all birds to pick up.having just come through a racing season during the course of which they were regularly treated for coccidiosis and crop canker these treatments stop.we allow our birds to generate a subclinical level of infection of these diseases to stimulate their immune responses.
Guest Owen Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Apart from the vaccation for paratyphoid, I can not see that there should be any reason for treatment of any kind. Strapper says that disease can call at any time, and he is right. However, the stocking levels should be at their lowest and birds should not be under any stress right now. Apart from the moult. Now is the time not to treat so that the birds can build up their resistance to the regular problems, such as cocci and canker. Repiratory problems should not be a factor because the ventilation should be at it's best right now. Worms should have been sorted and cleared from the birds long ago. I reckon that the execption should be any new birds that you may have bought. They should be isolated and checked with a microscope to make sure that they have not brought any nasty surprises with them. Just to enlarge on that, I know of several cases where new birds have infected lofts. This is especially true of paramixo which is running rife right now. I recently bought three. All of them were infected with lice, in spite of the fact that they came from very well known lofts.
Guest peter.j Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 im treating mine to a new loft and a good rest
Guest IB Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Mine are deep in moult just now. After they are finished, I'll do a loft dropping pooled sample, [4 seperate samples, 1 pooled from each section) and have that tested by a local avian vet. Treatment will depend on the result.
