bluebar99 Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Hi lads...I've been flying dark for 7 years now and I think it is a really good system, the best system really for ybs in my opinion.Anyways this one guy in my federation was sharing yb systems with friends on Facebook. He flies the light system btw. We belong to a federation here in San Francisco bay area located in California. I asked him if he thought that the light system was so good then why does 90% of european fanciers fly dark? The following was his reply... "LIGHT SYSTEM and DARK SYSTEM are both good young bird system... it's just the choice of the fancier what system they want to use due to thier busy schedule.... mostly european fanciers are retired or they have a loft man and they could do the dark system with no problem!!! the light system here in my club are suited for working fancier.". If you ask me this guy doesn't know what the hellhe is talking about! Retired? Loftman? Tell me guys..do you have hired hands to help you fly te dark? Are you retired? Is this why you lads over there in Europe fly the dark? Hahaha! This guy is a joke! He don't know that the dark is far superior than any system out there! Jan
PIGEONPACKMAN Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 some top fanciers say the darkness system doesn't produce good old birds i dont really know never tried it .As for loft hands allot have partnerships and share duties.
lvlasked Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 im trying the light system this year flew natural last year as was my first year but im working lol
Tony C Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 I think flying youngsters on the darkness suits our seasons along with being where were situated in the northern hemisphere, it just seems to work for us best. I wouldn't entertain the light system even if it was far superior than any other system simply because I dont like the idea of having to cut and pull their last flights.Fanciers that work can get around lightening and darkening their lofts simply by using lights, no need for hired hands.
greenlands Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Wouldn't think about the light system,I've flew darkness young birds for the past four or five years,I might revert to the natural this season, never seam to be able to keep them healthy, probably lack of ventilation over night ??.If I open the loft up any more It will be to mop out when it rains. Thought about potting a couple of chimneys on,that might be the answer. :animatedpigeons:
novo10 Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 fly darkness wouldnt change and darkness young birds score as yearlings 2 yrs 3yrs 4yrs and 5 yrs so never listen to people who say they wont be any good as old birds and they score in nationals every year jmo

Jan an open mind is the answer ------methods are constantly changing ----------try getting sampson bros video of the lightness system ,it explains a lot .our season in england ends too early to get full advantage of the benifits.i tried it and have returned to the darkness system.as for loft helpers and full time job ---glad my loft is at home so the missus can take the shutters off.
gulkie Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 watched the Sampson bro's video a number of years agoand am convinced whoever masters the light system in this country will reach the top. I believe that it is a lot ofhard work though IMO.
