david Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Anybody live near or close to these wind turbines? Is it as bad living near these things as i am reading.?They are being put up everywhere and i believe they have plans to erect 30 close by my residence say around 2km away )I am moving house next year so wont effect me for long. Does anybody fly near turbines. Some info'on these things would be handy. Cheers DAVID
OLDYELLOW Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 there's a few on birds route they don't bother them imo , I actually quite like them however if birds are been chased by bop and fly close to these to evade capture the bop will see space then bang oops it's moved
andy Burgess Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 theres a wind farm 10 mile up the road from us , its a good training piont , very visible on line of flight .
david Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Yep'i am hearing two sides to the story and it's not all bad.I know the turbines of a few years ago are much noisier than the ones today are. 10 mile is a fair bit away, but i would be interested to hear of anybody living around 2kilometer's away and the affects they are experiencing if any? I have heard of them being described as bird chompers!!Would this of come from a fancier i wonder? David
greenlands Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Most of these are on the line of flight depending on the wind direction and within four miles of my loft,I would think they would be a problem for the early young bird races where the birds MIGHT arrive in a flock, then again a single bird can have a mishap.http://www.visitcumbria.com/wc/windfarms.htm Lindsay

DavidI think the environmental impact would actually be more positive than negative , seems the R.S.P.B don't like them but there visible enough imo see crows flying around them all right however bops could be in trouble if a bird made evasive movements around them ,what difference are they to the many thousands of windmills we had many years ago no birds went on the red list back then the red list was caused and made by the R.S.P.B
OLDYELLOW Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 THEY ARE JUST AN EYESORE. Tooshy surely these are better than more nuclear power stations , the nuclear waste has to be dumped somewhere these turbines in time pay for themselves and produce clean free power ???? perhaps if they said were going to build either turbines or a nuclear power station I'm sure more would want turbines imo
OLDYELLOW Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 I would love to see these turbines on the hill line from Staxton hill to Hunamby hill :emoticon-0136-giggle: :emoticon-0136-giggle:

David Occasionally these establishments do have open days and if you have doubts they are well worth a visit.I visited one and the turbines were silent. Now that they are relatively common yes they can be an eyesore but they are my preferred alternative to neuclear and the high incidence of child leukemia which can accompany it.I have 42 turbines and 1 neuclear power station close to me and I know which one I would prefer.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Here about Goole East Yorks we ve looking at some thing in the order of a 100 turbines build in wind farms of any where from 6 to 20 per farm that have or are trying to get planning . at 1st they sound good but the more you read about them the more you tend to see its really more about the ££££ they make for the owners , even make £££ when not working which is a little odd tell them to come put some up on my hill line
greenlands Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 My own personal opinion is they are a complete waist of time and money, surely solar power is the way forward ??How much does it cost to maintain them, the ones in this area are either broken or under repair, several have not turned for a long time.

Lindsay Yes I saw a similar one (maybe same one) thought the turbine blades were so slow in turning, and very visible, that the bird would be more than aware of its presence. One of the dumber members of the species, I guess.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 from what I've read your lucky to run a shower with solar panel's , if was viable to run a house from the panel fer 1 day then yuppie every house would have one electric company's wouldn't like that , so not an answer really , All fer wind power guess the off shore wind farm may be a bad idea tho
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 WHO EVERS LAND ITS ON ARE GETTING WELL PAID FOR IT.///
greenlands Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 My mate has solar panels on his house, the initial outlay was on the dear side but his gas consumption as took a downward spiral, his words the best money he ever spent. So Industrial solar panels should be a better bet.again JMO.

T_T Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 In a direct line about 3 miles from me and planted firmly in the English Channel are about 150 plus of these Turbines. Not sure how to take em' at the minute, guess I'll have to go with the flow. Should only effect me when I fly the channel. Hopefully, pigeons are bright enough to avoid em'.
R.A.M.C.63 Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 YES pure waist money, worked on one project, they dont work if wind more than 38 MPH, or temperture drops to minus ?? like they have done last couple winters, and when weather is good owners Paid Fortunes to keep switched off, millions payed last year to keep them off, PURE Joke they are, eyesore,s, the grid cant even cope with surplus, we being treated like Mushrooms Kept in dark an fed SH*T
