At the moment I have all of my race team seperated with just a handfull of stock pairs on youngsters in the nest 5/10 days old.

For the past month the birds have all been fed the same food. Since the stock have started feeding the yb's the droppings have gone watery with a greater consumption of water. The unpaired birds have solid healthy droppings. The stock range from yearlings to 6 year olds some of which have just been added over the winter months. What has gone wrong!!

have you got a good selection of grit and minerals in front of your birds ???

Put some electrolytes in their water and introduce them to black minerals, don't give them a lot of minerals at first because they will go wild for them and O.D.I've seen this happen and it knocked the birds off their legs.

Short of salt while feeding youngens.JMO.

thanks to everyone for interest and replies.

I have mainly used Bucktons but couldn't get the breed and wean that I have used last year. I made up a mixture Ruby, economy amd farm beans which they have been on since the Blackpool show. Once a week I add Form oil and vitaminerals. Yesterday I bought a couple of bags of Versle Laga breeding sublime. I have not fed it yet as it would take me a couple of days to introduce it. I have had no grit or minerals in the loft since Friday afternoon.

There's the problem no grit or minerals grit and minerals are needed to get all the nutrients out of the corn also supply calcium and other elements to promote good bone growth .Probably one of the first things I ever read was Pigeons don't have teeth grit is used in the gizzard to help grind the corn to get all the nutrients from it plus giving calcium at the same time , most of the cheapest products and natural product are the ones we should be looking towards using , just because there cheap they shouldn't be discarded as been beneficial to our birds these should be in front of your birds all year round , it would be a good idea to get these and add live natural yoghurt and brewers yeast to your feed to return the birds to normal you could also grind a few cuttle fish up and add to the feed to get the calcium levels back up :)

First of all I recommend using a good grit such as versa laga with redstone along with just redstone grit also a crushed fabry Ideal block , to this I add seaweed powder and black minerals and 6 to 8 tablespoons of each this fills this mineral station , http://www.bleefe.co...o.php?p=9&pno=0 ( grit pot )

Advice given previously :I told him to go buy some live natural yoghurt , this is firstly a good source of calcium it also supports the immune system by increasing the good bacteria in the gut , remember anytime your bird has a ailment it usually starts within the digestive system somewhere so look after the pigeons gut and your birds with be healthier and have a better immune system ( my biggest secret if I ever had one ), second thing was these pigeons would of been lacking nutrients so I wanted to give them vitamins and the best multivitamin for pigeons is brewers yeast so the yoghurt and brewers yeast was added to the corn also along with crushed cuttle fish and fresh lemon and a bit of mixed grit so the birds eat more grit to return them back to normal and they were back to normal as I said they would be , what a difference a day makes

always a chance when bringing birds in from different lofts who have brought something in with them... i would take no chances and get them tested asap, or you entire season could be ruined!

Plenty of clay blocks, grit minrals and a good breeding mix will do the trick i find versal laga got a bit to much maize for my liking but if you must use that just add a few peas, natraline in water once a week. i add baby powder too with ad herb on the food.

many thanks again.

today started much the same, good clean out, fed the stock and added electrolytes to the water. after feeding took the water away for six hours and the droppings dried up. Fed again later this afternoon after adding maple peas to the VL sublime breeding mixture. More electrolytes in the water and within one hour the 6 pairs had drank 1.5 litres. and the wet droppings were returning. Fresh grit all day which most of the birds were eating. Not sure were to go from here!

Problem probably in the gut. Parents under stress through feeding youngsters. Bacteria imbalance in the gut. It is known as 8 to 10 day sickness. Give flightpath and birds will improve immediately. I fought these symptoms for years when even vets couldn,t help untill I found one who went the extra mile. Hexametiasus!!!!
