chaz Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 I found that after the first couple of years you will end up with an ideal number for your own lofts , as if you try to cram more y/bs in a section than ideal you generally lose them from around the loft or in a flyaway , so I would try no more than 30 and see how many you have left when you are ready to start training , and you will find over a couple of years the number you have left at the training stage each year is very similar , barring any major catastrophes , hope this helps
Guest bakes Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 try to keep them down mate in sizes for me 10 to 15 more than enough in that size gap doesnt matter how many you got in there you will loose them due to over crowding mate if you have to many in there all the best

paul10121968 Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 i have 30 youngsters in a 10x6 section.plenty of perches in there and they also have the option of a large avairy if they wish.i would put a maximum of 25 in a 6x6 section, with plenty of exercise and lots of perches they should be fine.
billt Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 As cash is short I would advise to look after smaller No. of birds better than have a lot that you cannot do the best for, Best of luck
just ask me Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 25 mate 30 max too many and u will lose good birds as fly aways then blame the parents as being crap
mark croker Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 25 to 30 mate, i bred 28 this year for the same size section, Not one flyaway, and finished with 26 after 1st and 2nd in the strongest club in the area, I have built bigger this year 9x6 and will be keeping the same amount, only for motivation so i can have pipos in it, the year before i had 25 in a 4x6 section with a 2 foot avairy that work just the same,, Just keep them clean and fit and you will not have a problem with 25 to 30 Two mates also have 6x6 and are keeping them the same this year, also I lost the least young birds in the fed
Delboy Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 18 birds m8, the way I work it out is 6x6 = 36 halved =18 birds. If it was 8x8 it would be 64 halved = 32
Roland Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Canadians are governed - goverment ruling I believe - by I bird per square foot of air. that - if say is 6 high 6x6x6 divided by 9. so that would be 24, but that needn't nescate what air condition is of hand. An Avery and good AIR CIRCULATION means more I suppose. I had 16 piard breed in a 6 x 4 with no problems. But it was / is very well ventilated.
