My stock birds who all are down on eggs or feeding young birds seem to eat lots of grit, is this normal. the grit is matrix mixed with normal oyster shell.

yes thay will eat more when breeding.

yes they do that m8, even get at the wee stones in the garden, I use matrix and they will eat lots of it, I am putting it in the feed hoppers after their food in small amounts,as they will eat all you give them,but its natural doing so when feeding young,but with matrix i dont have it in front of them all the time, as they will eat it,

they just seem to love matrix i really dont know why, ive used it for two years now and they would rather have it than their ordinary food but why they do this id like to know why, its not as if it salty or anything.

i feed the redstone grit more now & they ll eat every last bit but the mixed grit well they just waste that :animatedpigeons:

very true Jon , i still have a bit left of the mixed grit , and when i change it the "grey stuff" goes in the bucket.

THEY'LL BE EATING MORE GRIT ETC BECAUSE OF THE SEED AND ANISEED IN THE MATRIX

I have been told today that giving grit every day will make there dropping loose because of the salt.

That's a new one on me mate,my pigeons get fresh grit every day a handful am. and pm.,they will eat more when feeding youngens so it will then be in front of them all the time

They will Only eat more for the first few days until they stop producing milk

Then they are only carrying food to regurgitate to the young. My thoughts

Are that they may not need as much grit because they will only be passing it on to the ybs

cant say ive seen that and its given to them everyday the birds love it apart from the nutrition and other health benefits they seem happy just picking around in it :emoticon-0138-thinking:
