Guest LBuddle Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Who can Organise an Open race from Rome if there was enough people interested? and How??How far do you think it would be to parts of the UK?Lee
OLDYELLOW Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Think your best bet would be to see who take the Barcelona birds
just ask me Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 is there anyway to have all the uk and Ireland involved in the one race and for it to be reasonably fair
just ask me Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Yes I think so. be some race lee what area would you think for a lib point
Guest LBuddle Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 In the mid 80's (86 I think) they liberated them from the Colliseum in Rome.
sammy Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 its the same to central scotland 1 200 odd mile more of an endurance test than race ,good luck to them that would try it :emoticon-0137-clapping:
just ask me Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 maybe a lib from a boat is what is needed
Kyleakin Lofts Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 1,000 mile to north yorks. That would probably be the only way to make the distance fair. How many birds will fly from Poland / Romania to Scotland crossing the North Sea? Not many. The majority will follow land and cross near Dover. Measured distance is a farce if obstacles are not taken into consideration. Liberating at sea leaves no choice, but to cross or die. Many would die.I am not saying do not try it, but what I am saying is that very careful consideration must be given to the route. Rome may have to be renamed to Mid Atlantic. At 1000 miles it would still be "Rome", however let's remember that many roads lead to Rome and Mid Atlantic may just be one different Rome. As Sammy says 1000 miles is endurance in most cases.
Roland Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 900 to you, 1023 to me. Bilco did the last one.
just ask me Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 1000 miles would be a 3 day race i think that would be very harsh jmo

clockman Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 :emoticon-0137-clapping: :emoticon-0137-clapping: Are you up for it again then ????? No, its not fair on the doos,
OLDYELLOW Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 No, its not fair on the doos, that's my thought 500 miles to 650 miles more than a test for any bird But I do admire your performance on getting your bird back at that distance but to me that's not racing that homing
Roland Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Whether fair on birds or not is debatable. My jury is still out on that one. Average bird time to home is 17 days. Prince Jackson had yearlings doing the 100 miles in two days. Now the simple thing is, as I see it, it is not only to test the birds... that has already been proven, but for personal satifaction and merit to the sender.

Guest challengerlofts Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I would have a go if theres was one.
Roland Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 dont know where you got 17 days from That was the start of WHEN most arrival times started to take place. Agreed it was extremely hot that race. Then 27 - 29 days with hardly any reported later from the Rome race as I understand it.
Guest challengerlofts Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 FORGOT I HAD THIS click to enlarge Well done. It's a lifetime achievement.
