Who can Organise an Open race from Rome if there was enough people interested? and How??

How far do you think it would be to parts of the UK?

Think your best bet would be to see who take the Barcelona birds ;)

In the mid 80's (86 I think) they liberated them from the Colliseum in Rome.

1,000 mile to north yorks.

That would probably be the only way to make the distance fair. How many birds will fly from Poland / Romania to Scotland crossing the North Sea? Not many. The majority will follow land and cross near Dover. Measured distance is a farce if obstacles are not taken into consideration. Liberating at sea leaves no choice, but to cross or die. Many would die.

I am not saying do not try it, but what I am saying is that very careful consideration must be given to the route. Rome may have to be renamed to Mid Atlantic. At 1000 miles it would still be "Rome", however let's remember that many roads lead to Rome and Mid Atlantic may just be one different Rome. As Sammy says 1000 miles is endurance in most cases.

No, its not fair on the doos, :animatedpigeons:

that's my thought ;) 500 miles to 650 miles more than a test for any bird :) But I do admire your performance on getting your bird back at that distance but to me that's not racing that homing :)

Whether fair on birds or not is debatable. My jury is still out on that one.

Average bird time to home is 17 days. Prince Jackson had yearlings doing the 100 miles in two days.

Now the simple thing is, as I see it, it is not only to test the birds... that has already been proven, but for personal satifaction and merit to the sender.

That was the start of WHEN most arrival times started to take place. Agreed it was extremely hot that race. Then 27 - 29 days with hardly any reported later from the Rome race as I understand it.
