Defo a waste of space for doos imo in this country anyway many top fanciers can tell what a doos has wrong with it just by looking at it. how many pigeons has a fancier saw and held and how many has a vet? Im pretty sure they dont work on them at vet school either

obv in belg holland germany this will be different

All top products administered to pheasants ,are all a pigeon fancier would require ,have a word with a gamekeeper he will tell you what products are for what ailment ,Simples ;)

Try having a disease in your loft that no vet or govenment body can cure. Most vets only have a basic knowledge of avian diseases. A vet by the name of Dave Parsons went the extra mile and between us {working together} we solved my nightmare from hell. There are excellent vets out there.

I widnae take a doo to a vet no matter what i thought of it, fact is doomen know more about pigeons and their ailments than the vet does. Certainly true around here at least.

Vet in Laurieston just along the road from me was first I visited with a pigeon, he readily admitted that he knew nothing about birds, but put me on to one that did. That was my first lesson, there's vets and there's avian vets.

Sat in reception listening to comings and goings - companion animals mainly dogs & cats, most of them had had surgery. Costs for each animal were all well over £100 , no wonder Insurance companies offer pet cover now, a few bills like that would rook a millionaire. :emoticon-0136-giggle: So, no, vet is a last resort for me, the bird must be worth something, or its something I'm worried might affect the rest.

Never been to a vet with a pigeon but recently it cost us £25 for him to tell us he thought he should put our old dog down then a further £70 odd for him to do it :emoticon-0138-thinking:

The money they must make is unreal,we're the idiots fer paying it :cry-blow:

last week it cost me £411 to have the greyhound get a dental

I paid £425.00 last year for dogs dental extractions hope he doesn't have to back. When I read the small print on the insurance teeth were not covered and was paying £15.00/month

I was quoted GBP 550 by a Vet for an Export Health Certificate for 12 Birds, which by the way is issued free of charge by Defra. The Vet only had to inspect and approve an Isolation/Quarantine Facility for 12 Birds, draw blood samples and submit them to Defra for testing and complete the necessary documentation. It only amounted to 2 loft visits.

I ended up shipping the birds to Holland and from there to South Africa.

none of the insurance companies will cover dental treatment,we are with pet plan and pay £34 a month for each dog which has been very useful as one of the greyhounds has had over £7,000 worth of treatment in the last two years

Well I am a great believer in 'Self immunity' for my birds.

However there are time, and it is getting increasingly worse, that we, our birds, need a helping hand.

Spent nigh £200 and more this last season at the Vets. First time ever. What I feared it was, wasn't. But never the less it put peace of mind in place, likewise a very good learning curve!

Had a fear of Samonella... But was yeast that devasted my loft.

YEAST is a very big devaster of birds! Since have learned. Wish I could get a stock of Nystatin!

Likewise we are trying - will do, pass it at the AGM that any body's bird showing any sign - outside the norm - of an ailment they MUST contact the Sec and committee. Have to hold off racing till a vet gives them a 'Clean Buill of Health'!

Further all container / drinkers and Water has to be steralised way before being in use. Nine in one club went down this past season will Pharphoid! Devastion. Many of us that spend time and money caring and looking after our birds are getting sheite loads of it coming down the shoot because of others lack of sensiblity and common sence. Samonella is from Filth, rats / Mce etc. and poor manager... But of course one can still get it in a well ventilated clean disenfected lofts.

IS THAT FAIR :emoticon-0126-nerd: :emoticon-0126-nerd: :emoticon-0126-nerd::emoticon-0138-thinking: :emoticon-0138-thinking:
