Wiley Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 i think i have got it thats the problem they all turned over night were fine yesaday went into the shed this morning and there was some corn on the floor not a lot so i feed them as normal today at 2o clock and now there corn over the floor and perchs and wet dark droppingsget some xerex of bilco best stuff when you get young bird sickness they look 100% healthy in 48 hours
The engineer Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 I have it at the moment mine arn' t been sick however holding corn fluffing up after exercise and green droppings as you say it is confusing. No fancier will give you the same answer on how to cure it i think you need to take one and try it if it works for you watch for the early symptoms and treat as soon as you see them. I have not fed mine for 24 hrs then only giving light feeds ensuring the crops are emptying. I have some stuff someone got from the vet. I think the other key is not to send them training or racing the amount of people who are sending when they have it in there loft is shocking.
yeboah Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 I have mine back onto half ounce morning and night of good seed, there dropping are good ,let them have a light exercise last night which i felt was a mistake as some of them looked pretty tired afterwards ,one blue in particular has pink skin ,clear throat and handles OK yet it has reverted to walking like a duck ,thought it might be a deficiency so added brewers yeast and energy oil to feed tonight ,has any one any idea's to the cause of this ?
fletch Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 no food for 48 hours then light feeds for 3-4 days little and often to get digestive system working propperif possible feed 4 times a day but only half there daily amount over 4 feedsanother thing is leave them in loft for at least a week if possible 10 days and dont rush them back training
Tony C Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Were now 6 years on from this Topic http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/topic/17786-young-bird-sickness/ and little or nothing has changed.
glew bros Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Regarding Yb sickness I had never experienced it in forty years of racing until 2 years ago after being gifted some youngsters and they brought it with them ,treated them with an unknown powder which worked straight away ,last year week after first race they came down with it again this time i split the team into 2 sections and treated one with the powder as the year previous and the others with cinnamon that i bought at the Co-op for pennies and it cured them every bit as good . Read a post on here where the vet stated the virus could lie dormant in the dust in the loft for a year so i pressure washed the loft from top to bottom ,so far so good time will tell ,Spoke to a very good fancier at last years national presentation and when i asked him about Yb sickness he told me to inoculate the youngsters at 5 days old for PMV and Para typhus and i would not have any more health issues with them ,if i encounter problems this year will definitely follow that procedure next . wondered how much cinamon you used?
OLDYELLOW Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I used a teaspoon of cinnamon on there feed with live natural yoghurt and a handful of garden lime and juice of one lemon and a small amount of ground nut oil
yeboah Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 wondered how much cinamon you used?Used one teaspoon of cinnamon mixed over feed with one teaspoon live yogurt, also one teaspoon cinnamon in drinker mix well looks messy but works ,had been giving antibiotic with not to good results felt it was knocking the guts out of the young they have responded much better reverting to the cheap option and are starting to resemble what a youngster should look like ,but got to agree far to many jumping them back in before they are fully recovered 2 weeks def not enough, just passing the problem to others ,you only have to look at fellow fanciers returns and times at clock checking (every picture tells a story )no substitute for the truth .
