Guest peter4pm Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Had to kill 3 birds in the last week and a half ...all showed symtoms of struggling to fly ...only 1 had a swolen wing joint ...So suspecting Paratyphoid ...and since i dont treat my birds with medication no more i thought it best to just kill all birds that show these signs , just goes to show how inefectve vaccines are or maybe its just the imune systems of certain birds arent as strong as others .
greenlands Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, probably the one that doesn't show any signs of para. is a carrier. If life was only that simple.Lindsay
Guest IB Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 If the birds have been vaccinated against paratyphoid, then I'd suspect something else is behind the symptoms. There is only one way to find out for sure and that is take the next bird that shows the symptoms to a vet for euthanising & autopsy.

There is only one way to find out for sure and that is take the next bird that shows the symptoms to a vet for euthanising & autopsy.i thought if treated they get exposed to either live or dead paratyphoid , and also shed via droppings , also would like to know had they been treated for paratyphoid
Tony C Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Not necessarily Paratyphoid, read swilcox post on this thread http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/topic/36799-stiff-wings/page__p__557147__hl__wing__fromsearch__1&?do=findComment&comment=557147

Should it be Paratyphoid eliminating those showing signs of it isn't a sure way of eradicating it from your lofts. The problem being pigeons can harbor Paratyphoid without ever showing any signs, these are carriers and can pass it on. I suggest you take professorial advice, a good place to start would be to contact http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/user/2567-david-vet/I'm all for natural immunity but some diseases cant be left to run its course............. Paratyphoid is one of them. Hope you get it sorted.
