go out and buy a childs drink cup the one with a curly straw through the lid, use the straw and throw away the cup or drink out of it .

Felt tip pen cases work well, just cut with a hack saw to the length you want and if you are fussy you can even match the colours.

Another one that does the trick is the body of a Bic biro pen,just cut to size with a small hacksaw.

i used wooden blocks screwed into the frame with holes drilled out for the rod

the bonus of doing it that way is it also gives support to the rod

as yours looks quite long and may bend
