sapper756 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Unhappy New Year Looms For Motorists Motorists will head into the New Year facing a double-hit to the price of fuel.http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2010/Aug/Week3/15692306.jpg Motorists are bracing themselves for rises at the pumps From January 1, a planned Government fuel duty rise will put 0.76p on the price of a litre of petrol and diesel. Three days later on January 4 the increase in VAT to 20% will mean another jump in pump prices. The AA estimates that the two increases will add around 3.5p to the cost of a litre of petrol and diesel. AA figures show that at present, a litre of petrol costs an average of 123.98p a litre, with diesel at 128.20p a litre. This time last year petrol was at 107.74p a litre and diesel at 109.46p. The AA has estimated that motorists - even before the two latest increases - are spending almost £10m more a day on petrol than this time a year ago. Another rise in fuel duty is scheduled to be brought in in April. Professor Stephen Glaister, director of the RAC Foundation, said: "At the election there was much talk about a fuel duty stabiliser. Drivers will rightly be wondering what happened to that idea." Simon Chapman, chief economist of the Freight Transport Association, said: "Diesel is not an optional extra for industry. It is essential to keep shops stocked and businesses supplied with materials. "Rises in fuel commodity prices have already left operators facing diesel prices 9p per litre higher than a year ago - adding £3,800 per year to the bill of running an articulated truck. "This latest fuel duty increase, together with those previously introduced this year, will add a further £1,200 per year."
JohnQuinn Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 I get a generous fuel allowance from ma work so it'll no get me too upset. Mind you i would happily do a go slow on the major roads in protest at the prices, if such a thing was organised, because we drivers are a soft touch and have been for successive governments.
airdrie2 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 wheres the protests now like sheep we all accept for a week we should all stop using a perticular type of petrol station ie bp,shell, jet after a week of no sales they would drop price to attract sales then just use them only to one of the others drop there price but would have to be nationaly so the whole country benifit

Roland Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Cheapest now (oil) since 1972! Yeah when it was 48p So of course they will bring the price down!!! Yeah Right! Like they will the gas prices... went up 7% so they hocked it up 40%... went down 12% so the took it down - over a year - 10% So it has gone up 2%, so in stead of carrying it, they hock it up 7% suprise suprise. NOTHING ever returns down to former price regardless.

Roland Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Both the Chameleon and Cleggy have both gone back on their' election mandate promises of Stablizing the price of fuel with the tax on fuel. I.e. as Oil prices went up the Tax would come down to maintain a. Eaquilbalance And of course vica - versa. Needless to say that this has gone out the window. However, further, they still agree that at the next budget tax will be added at the promise of only 5% over inflation WHICH is now over 4%. so that will be at least another 10% come April on Fuel. I.e. about another 13p!

sapper756 Posted January 15, 2011 Author Report Posted January 15, 2011 Oil And Petrol Tanker Drivers Warn Of Strike Thousands of petrol and oil tanker drivers may take industrial action in a row over pay, pensions and working conditions, it has emerged. http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/gif/2010/Dec/Week3/15856865.gif Shell tanker drivers took industrial action over pay in 2008 Unite union has warned oil industry bosses to "take their heads out of the sand and realise that the constant attack on tanker drivers' terms and conditions must stop". Representatives have agreed to ballot members, saying that voting would likely begin next month. A strike could disrupt supplies and push up the cost of fuel. There has already been concern that the cost of filling up a tank could rise to £70 by Easter. The union claimed that the repeated transfer of drivers’ contracts between companies responsible for the delivery of oil and petrol to forecourts and supermarkets across the country have "eroded" the pay and conditions over the past ten years. Around 3,000 drivers have been affected, with the issue becoming more pronounced in the last 18 months.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gif
