now we have had snow for a good few days, how many fanciers let their birds out in the snow, or are they kept in, either way give your views, :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Mine are on permanent open loft, apart from 3 stock pairs

Since a BOP strike back in late September, mine have been confined to the loft. Which is not the norm for me, as I love to see my birds outhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0179-headbang.gif

certainly would not let a bird out today, when I was up the park with the dog, I saw a carrion crow in the snow and it could not take offhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

mine are on open loft apart from 3 stock pairs and they are always fed outside, don't want to encourage the wee furries in the buildings, today I had to dig a trench in 10ins. of snow to feed them, surprising what they get used to

got to agree with fletchlives and geo 1234 i think the birds can get disorientated when the ground is covered in snow, the last time we had snow here i had a 4 year old cock bird reported in dorset 2 days after going missing from excercise? kev

Totally agree with ye Rab, I let mine out when weather was ok, they sat oot all night but most came in in morning, the ones that were still out were hit with BOP, they went wandering and then fog came down. Still 10 amiss,2 of these out yb national this year.

its amazin how far they can go in the fog if they get a fright or a bop strike would surprise ye where they can go in a day .

hope more turns up m8

BOP scares the shicht right oot them, the younger they are, the worse they react.

our birds become used to seeing water below them in training and racing as its there all the time but snow rarely comes around our way so i find it strange that a 4yr old cock bird that had never put a foot wrong before got lost in the snow and couldnt get back from dorset on its own steam? kev
