sapper756 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Since a BOP strike back in late September, mine have been confined to the loft. Which is not the norm for me, as I love to see my birds outhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0179-headbang.gif

sapper756 Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 now we have had snow for a good few days, how many fanciers let their birds out in the snow, or are they kept in, either way give your views, certainly would not let a bird out today, when I was up the park with the dog, I saw a carrion crow in the snow and it could not take offhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif
billt Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 certainly would not let a bird out today, when I was up the park with the dog, I saw a carrion crow in the snow and it could not take offmine are on open loft apart from 3 stock pairs and they are always fed outside, don't want to encourage the wee furries in the buildings, today I had to dig a trench in 10ins. of snow to feed them, surprising what they get used to
kev01293 Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 got to agree with fletchlives and geo 1234 i think the birds can get disorientated when the ground is covered in snow, the last time we had snow here i had a 4 year old cock bird reported in dorset 2 days after going missing from excercise? kev
glenrandal Posted December 24, 2010 Report Posted December 24, 2010 let them out about 11am they fly about 20 mins and when in and fed dont want to go out again......

What do you think we race??????our birds become used to seeing water below them in training and racing as its there all the time but snow rarely comes around our way so i find it strange that a 4yr old cock bird that had never put a foot wrong before got lost in the snow and couldnt get back from dorset on its own steam? kev
