Guest strapper Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 i think one of my bird might be ill could you giv me your thoughts ? hi ..i think you need to give us more info on the birds..like what are you feeding them?....are you feeding them red mineral at the moment?are they refusing food or eating more ...and also are they drinking more or less?.are there any strange movements in the birds?and are the birds perching in a puff up state? if you really have concerns get the droppings checked sooner rather than later.
alex young Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 My eyesight's not so good, but in the second photo is that a worm?
Delboy Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 looks like the birds have been at the elderberries, or some sort of berry

Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 grit they getting is JON'Z ULTRA PIGEON SUPPLEMENT off of taylors choice they seem to be ok with it i have seen them eat it
Guest IB Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 If you got them on Thursday they've hardly had time to develop anything, they are probably adjusting to new environment, regime feeding & water. Hope as with all new introductions you have got them split from others for 7 - 10 days just to make sure tho.
Tony C Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Just give them plain feed and water for a couple of days, could be that its gorging itself on grit ...........especially if the previous owner didn't give them access to any.
Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 they only had plain water and feed m8 and there my only bird in the shed also as there my first birds for years since i was 13 so learning just dont want them bein ill

kirky Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Just give them plain feed and water for a couple of days, could be that its gorging itself on grit ...........especially if the previous owner didn't give them access to any.i think the above is spot on if thay have not had the grit thay will gorge themselves on it, ive had birds that did not eat for 2 days when new to the loft just need time to settle in.
OLDYELLOW Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 i think maybe a bit short on food especial as settling in to a new loft
Guest strapper Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 i think the above is spot on if thay have not had the grit thay will gorge themselves on it, ive had birds that did not eat for 2 days when new to the loft just need time to settle in. with respect, grit will stiffen up droppings if taken more than usual..they will not cause running droppings.although red grit will cause the colouration of the droppings. i have my suspicion what it maybe but wont make the mistake of saying so.
Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 they all seem to be happy tho i whistle and they all fly on me for food or come to my hand for food they all tame all seem to be happy
WHITTY Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 whats the reason for lifting the food up as some birds eat a lot faster than others whitch means some get there fill whie others get next to nothing birds need as much food as they like at this time of the year so if they are comeing to you they must still be hungery hope this helps cheers
Wiley Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 they all seem to be happy tho i whistle and they all fly on me for food or come to my hand for food they all tame all seem to be happyeither tame or very very hungry theres a difference,
Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 well i fed them 2 times yesaday and last time was at 4 and just after i fed them i can still whistle and all here head go up and looking around if you no what i mean
Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 well any times how how and when i should feed them this time of year i would be greatful
OLDYELLOW Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 if there young birds there still growing ( as i know you only recently got loft sorted ) so better to leave there feed for 20 minutes then remove there feed , feed 2 ounce per 3 birds am and pm leave only for 20 minutes if your wanting them tame try feeding off yer hand not all will eat from your hand tho so ensure the more timid ones get a feed as well
Guest lvlasked Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 im giving them a pint of feed at 4oclock everyday atmand i feed all 4 outa my hand coz they will haha
Guest IB Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 At this time of year, you only need to feed the pigeons once, around 1200 would be my choice but it depends on your work pattern. Measure out the feeding and leave it down, they might gobble the lot in one go for a while, then lift the hopper before darkness falls. Make sure that there are legumes (beans / peas) in the mix for fibre. They can fill themselves up with seeds, but they'll still be hungry afterwards, and their droppings will be looser, a lot looser than those with plenty fibre in their diet..
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 The chevita site is good for symptoms - but a vet would be better!! http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/symptoms/index.php As strapper says - we could all have a guess - and be incorrect, take a droppings sample from the loft to a vet - plus a few of the birds so he can do fresh swabs I think there is something wrong with your birds by the way
