sapper756 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Next week will see the start of Fire works being set off, I have a young family 2 doors away, who always have a display out in their back garden, which is only about 24ft away from my loft. I do not complain, because when I was young I loved fireworks, so live and let live. But I do my best to protect my birds by darkening the lofts and making sure they can not see out, I close off the aviery also. How do PB members cope during this time? PS, my wee dog also gets stressed out with the fireworks http://www.thaismile.jp/FotoGallary/ThaiPics/King60Anniversary/FireWorks20060610/FireWorks02.JPG
PATTY BHOY Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 tell them to go down the park and set them off.
billt Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Luckily I'd have to drive a few miles to see a fire-work
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Luckily there are none close to our lofts but there are a few displays that we can see and hear because we live at the top of the hill and the displays are always somewhere at the bottom.but one of our greyhounds is terrified of the noise she hears but she is scared of almost anything
Guest IB Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I live next to Callendar Park where there is a big fireworks display every year. I don't need to leave the house to see or hear it, some of them explode right above the house, and shock wave shakes it. Theres a pond over the park with resident geese, swans, ducks & waterfowl and all they do is go to the end of the pond furthest away from the fireworks. Loft is next to a road so my birds are used to noise. Only time they've been startled is when they were out and banger went off over the valley, echo seemed to create a louder bang. So I now keep them in that week. Next door had a wee display for the kids, but loft has a solid brick wall on that side so it didn't bother the birds. Agree that fireworks are a nuisance, when I first moved here they were non-stop for months, even in the middle of the night. New Law stopped that. But still a nightmare for dogs, my daughter's dog is terrified of them, and that is when she is in the house.
Guest spin cycle Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 i'm against banning things generally.....BUT the general sale of fireworks is an invitation to general nuisance from now 'til xmas. if people want them in their garden fine...but there ought to be some control to stop fireworks being bought and set off anywhere. if you want to have a 'garden fete' during the summer for charity you have to have a licence, ins. health &safety etc....yet come nov. shop counters are selling fireworks with little control ....sorry rant over

Guest peter4pm Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 If there is one time of year i really hate when keeping pigeons ..it's firework night ...nearly a week before it ...idiots start letting of rockets and so forth with very loud bangs.I nearly lost 3 of my racing pigeons today because of some idiot letting off fireworks in broad daylight ...my birds dissapeared for over an hour before returning home and my dogs were going off their heads ,.public supply of fireworks should have been banned a long time ago
